Are you trying to suggest that homosexuality is contagious?

By that logic, what about bisexuality—does that travel through the airwaves too?

But seriously, does anything actually change?
Will some poor, innocent soul succumb against their will to whatever "evil forces" they're exposed to, or will someone perfectly innocent just suddenly become gay?

So, you're saying people who hang out with gay or lesbian folks start imitating them spontaneously—like monkeys, as you put it—as if humans possess some sort of magical power to hypnotize us poor heterosexuals...

Have you personally experienced this, or are you just theorizing that the monkey really does mimic the monkey?

Even if we accept your premise, it doesn't explain what your specific issue is—say, with lesbians, for example?
It seems obvious you haven't actually known anyone who isn't heterosexual (though you likely have, and they just kept it under wraps, which is only natural)

And how is it that all gay people don't simply turn heterosexual, given that we are surrounded by an endless supply of hetero material? One might think the influence works both ways, but clearly it doesn't... I suppose they must be immune.

Well, you don't have to look at anyone if you don't want to; nobody is forcing you. You could always just stare at the ground

or up at the sky...

Public spaces come with certain social rules. Even minor things can be seen as totally inappropriate in public, like eating food or something. At home, you can do whatever you want.

Lisa Hernandez3 said:Well, I suppose that’s a much larger conversation. You actually had an entire thread dedicated to homosexuality—looking at it from a psychological standpoint—where all sorts of topics regarding sexuality and homophobia were dissected. Maybe you could revisit that one to get a better sense of how homophobia actually manifests in the real world, and perhaps see the different levels it can take.

Some homophobes don't even realize that homosexuality is relatively common within the population and is a natural occurrence—not some kind of psychological disorder—while others seem to think that gaining equal rights doesn't threaten the rights of heterosexual people, nor does it pose any risk to children or the traditional institution of marriage and family. 🤷

But what about the folks who actually get all that, yet they're still dead set against gay rights?

wearyorca94 said:Oh, they definitely exist... but being smart doesn't mean you have any real insight into the world.

You can totally be a brilliant criminal and still be clueless...😉

But if I'm some genius criminal, then I definitely have a deep understanding of crime. I don't really see the connection there...

Ryan Wood98 said:Even if they are exceptions, does that change much? I suppose homosexuals could be viewed as exceptions too, yet we are still discussing them here, and some even argue that they aren't "normal" precisely because they fall outside those exceptions.

Besides, I am curious where the claim comes from that most homosexuals don't want children? I am not necessarily disagreeing, but I was wondering about the source for that specific statistic, as I haven't come across it before.

Gay people aren't being discriminated against. They can always marry someone of the opposite sex and have kids with them if they want to...

Lisa Hernandez3 said:Not really—unless they happen to know something I don't. Based on everything I understand about homosexuality, there aren't any valid reasons to respect them, yet at the same time, efforts are made to ensure they still don't receive full civil rights. I suppose that qualifies as homophobic behavior—declaring one thing while acting against them in practice. None of the rights they're fighting for—things like marriage, inheritance, or parenting—can be disputed by any facts regarding those individuals themselves.

I'm not sure I follow.
Is that innate? To whom is it innate? For me, for instance, it isn't.

So what exactly is it that homophobes don't get about gay people that makes them act that way?

wearyorca94 said:I might need to sit and meditate on that one for a bit...

I don't know 🤷 sorry.

But just going by gut feeling, I think that's the only 😉
...

Is it just coming from some irrational fear, or is there actually some real concern behind it? I mean, can you even have intelligent homophobes out there...

Ryan Wood98 said:🤣🤣🤣 Honestly, this should probably be part of your signature. It feels like one of the most powerful statements made here. 🤣🤣🤣

Yeah, obviously, there's zero sexual connotation here. I don't even know where people are getting those insinuations from...

Ryan Wood98 said:Thanks, I suppose my background in marketing comes into play here.

So, I guess the implication is that if someone identifies as heterosexual, it is perfectly acceptable for them to engage in sexual activity with someone of the same gender now and then?

If a homosexual person desires to have a child, would that not suggest they do NOT have a disrupted instinct to preserve the species, given that they want to continue the lineage?

Furthermore, I wonder if a heterosexual person who chooses NOT to have children would also be considered to have such a disruption.

Those are just outliers, really... Most straight people end up having kids, while most gay folks aren't looking to have them...

I guess then there's really no issue with being homophobic or antisemitic either...

placidwolf27 said:Look, here’s the thing—I can argue with anyone, anywhere I want, whenever I feel like it... provided they feel the same way. And honestly, it’s not just a right—officially, at least, as long as you don't cross some line—but personally, I just couldn't care less what people think...

I happen to be in a heterosexual relationship at the moment...

Now, if things were different—if, God forbid, I were in a relationship with someone of the same sex, say a man—and we felt like having a little disagreement, just being humans... well, then we’d actually have to think three times before acting. We’d have to watch where we are and when we do it, because there’s a very real chance someone might physically attack us...

Even if it’s just some random bystander sitting at a coffee shop who doesn't even have any same-sex inclinations themselves... they could end up getting screwed just by being near us...

Can you even imagine someone deciding to attack you—even if they’re just being affectionate—simply because you’re being intimate with your current partner in a public space?

It’s grim, isn't it? Unless you’re planning on performing some sort of solo act on a crowded subway or stripping down in the middle of a pub—which, assuming you're a socially adjusted human being, probably won't happen easily—the reality is much darker...

And see, that's the problem—people of that orientation aren't quite as lucky...
Those individuals can face serious trouble if they show affection or emotional closeness to the person they love, all without knowing if some primitive jerk is going to lash out at them... which can lead to getting beaten up, not to mention the entire social stigma and the endless complications that follow...

So now I’m thinking... imagine if two male friends—heterosexual, Christian, Americans—decided one day, just for kicks, to walk through town holding hands?
Just as a joke, maybe on a dare...
I’m genuinely curious what kind of reactions they’d get from the crowd, and I wonder which part of the city they’d even be allowed to walk through...

Because, goddammit, "they're acting like queers, it's not right, you can't do that in public, two people holding hands like that... it needs to be stopped."

Why would I even look at you in public? You can hook up at home as much as you want. Unless, well, maybe you don't have a roof over your head so you gotta do it outside...

Henry Williams:
I don't know about you guys, but I am just feeling so incredibly pumped today... everything is finally starting to click into place and it feels like the universe is actually on my side for once... life is good... Henry Williams says:
What else could be driving this... maybe just some obsession with keeping everyone acting all moral and stuff? 😵 So, what does being an "opponent of homosexuals" actually mean to you... 😕
Man, there are just so many awesome gay people out there... 😁 So I was just scrolling through the internet the other day and stumbled upon some news saying that Tracy Chapman is gay... honestly had no clue at all... 😲 Honestly, who could even hate on her or try to go against her? She's just incredible... her voice is insane, the songs are killer, she's just straight up amazing... 😍
I mean, I'm talking about the opposition when it comes to fighting for specific rights, not just the people themselves...

Lisa Hernandez3 said:If these old-timers—these true experts and pros—keep this up,
we might as well just rename the thread to "The Mysterious John and his funny little PDF: It's someone else's problem, so trolling is fair game."

So this is the second thread, but I honestly don't get what the criteria are for calling something a troll. Like, yeah, sometimes it's super obvious, but what exactly is being trolling about this specific topic?...
What exactly is "homophobia"? in Psychology ·
Lisa Hernandez3 said:If that’s how you feel, then maybe this thread isn't really for you either. You could always head back to the other section and vent all about that "joke" you mentioned, so you don't clutter things up here while we talk about homophobia: http://www.forum.us/showthread.php?t=510977

And then Endymion17 shared some moderator insights regarding how much of a troll you are with that rather convenient account of yours, and then just vanished. 😢

Man, Endymion17 is such a regular at this game...

Richard Moore53 said:Honestly, if you aren't keeping up with current events, you'd know that being gay has become the new trend. Nowadays, anyone with even a minor grievance against homosexuality is immediately branded a homophobe. If you don't explicitly cheer them on, you're guilty by association. This whole debate is getting incredibly stale; frankly, everyone is tired of hearing about it.☕

I mean, if homophobia is actually a disorder based on irrational fear, then those folks should probably get some help and treatment since they're clearly struggling, rather than just being judged by everyone else...

placidwolf27 said:Well, why not... people are free agents in this country, after all...

And honestly, it’s not even like you don't see guys getting aggressive in public all the time—just the other day, I watched two guys nearly flip an entire table at a diner and almost take out everyone's drinks...

Seriously though, who's actually getting worked up over stuff happening in public? Does everyone really need to witness everything? People are only as free as society lets them be...

Lisa Hernandez3 said:And what about not holding people accountable when they ignore the forum rules or certain guidelines?
I mean, from my perspective—and I could be wrong here—what you’ve been doing in this thread is actually quite rude. It feels like a sort of sneaky way of slipping in those tired, recycled street jokes about gay people, all while masking it under a seemingly sophisticated opening post meant to clarify terminology or, I suppose, some kind of psychological mechanism. You were very careful at first, presenting everything as if you were just deeply concerned with the underlying logic of the topic rather than just trolling. But then, once enough people joined the conversation, the whole thing just unraveled.
If you're looking for a laugh, maybe stick to the joke threads.

Man, psychology is basically the funniest PDF and the most hilarious "science" out there... and I'm not even sure what kind of joke this is supposed to be... besides, they moved the whole thread over here anyway, since it originally started in the sex section...

Ryan Wood98 said:Are you suggesting that if, for instance, two men were walking through Times Square, hugging and fondling each other, it wouldn't trigger any negative reactions from bystanders?

I mean, why would two dudes need to be getting aggressive in public anyway?...
