Hey everyone, I’m trying to figure out which GPU actually packs more punch—I’ve been scouring the web but honestly, I’m coming up empty

My PC has been running fine for 3 or 4 years now, and I was just looking for a recommendation for a card better than an NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT for a little bit of cash—just so my rig lasts another 2-3 years without my kid complaining that his games are lagging...
Right now he’s playing Company of Heroes Online, and he can't deal with the frame rate drops when he's trying to move units around...
So, keeping it simple: what's a card better than the 8500 GT for cheap???

basically, I'd grab
PCI-E XFX AMD Radeon HD 5670, 512MB DDR5, HDMI, DP, DVI, HDTV
You really can't go wrong with XFX
speaking of which—I actually dig Zotac cards... I have a feeling they might be better than Palit? 😕

Henry Kelly40 said:honestly, the graphics card is the only thing killing me—everything else is pretty much solid. I've got an AMD Phenom II X6 processor running at 2800 MHz, 4 GB of RAM, and a 1 TB hard drive (which feels like overkill, I guess!). Since I don't really get this stuff, I thought my current card was decent, but I'm thinking about picking up an AMD Radeon HD 5870 1GB for just $500... I saw one at Best Buy for about $30 extra
Henry Kelly40 said:Alright, so I'm wondering—is this card actually any good: AMD Radeon HD 4350 512MB?
Casey Long2 said:No way! Definitely stay away from the 465—it’s honestly a total bust. It runs slower than the 460, draws way more power, and gets hot enough to fry an egg. Just don't do it.
crimsonstag84 said:The GTX 260 averages about 5-6% better than the HD 5770—but now that the GTX 460 is actually out, there’s really no point in picking one up... it's just outdated at this point.😛
Casey Long2 said:Given how tiny that stock cooler on an Intel Core i3 is, I highly doubt you'll push it past 3.5 GHz before your temps go absolutely nuclear.
If you're actually planning to overclock, maybe invest in a decent cooler.
James Morris4 said:What kind of cooling are you using?
I reckon you could probably squeeze out a 30-40% overclock without much trouble.

cosmicfox31 said:So, just cut a hole in the case big enough to wedge a spoiler in—maybe go see a body shop guy to get some 🤣
P.S. Looks like you're modding the case just to save a few bucks on Christmas lights...
