IRS and Tax Filing Issues in Business, Accounting & Taxes ·
Hi everyone,
I’m in a bit of a bind here... my digital certificate for the IRS e-filing system has been revoked.

Once I get the new one issued, what’s the standard procedure to regain access to the e-filing portal and the tax filing systems?
Thanks.

Is there still an issue with public publishing on the fine pages?
It was similar to when it was just statistical. I recall there being some kind of glitch where the latest version of Fine didn't support Windows XP... or something along those lines?

I sent an email to my contact over at Deloitte, and the director has already taken care of the reference.

By the way, just so you guys know, Deloitte's applications don't actually support older versions of Windows like Windows XP; you need at least Windows 7 or later to run them.

I need to register an employee with today's date through Medicare, but I don't have her Social Security number handy. Is it possible to get the filing through without the SSN today? If not, could I file tomorrow but backdate it to today? Also, besides filling out the application for a fixed-term contract, is there anything else I need to upload?

Robert Sanchez6, you really nailed the explanation there. Thanks so much for breaking it all down.

I was scrolling through some IRS guidelines last night regarding independent contractor agreements, and I stumbled upon exactly what you mentioned. You can't just claim an "increased workload" as a catch-all excuse to justify those types of contracts or extensions anymore; there actually has to be a solid, well-documented reason behind it. It looks like we've officially moved into a whole different area of complexity.

How’s the employee registration process looking lately? I haven’t had to onboard or offboard anyone in about six months.
I see that filing with NOAA is sufficient.
But for Medicare, do I just need to have a registered application on file?

1. One of my employees had a contract expire on September 30th, 2014. Since the new labor laws just kicked in, I’m not sure if I can re-register them for a fixed-term contract, or if I even need to report that to NOAA.
2. What’s the standard procedure now when we’re enrolling someone on a fixed-term basis for the first time under the updated IRS guidelines?
3. When we extend an existing fixed-term agreement, do we need to notify NOAA, and do we have to provide a reason for the extension?

Sorry to be a nuisance; you guys have probably already covered this in previous threads...

I’ve just set up a new LLC that isn't registered for sales tax.

1. Is this same kind of security key required for registering with Medicare?
2. Is the Finin key a universal standard for all these types of applications?
Thanks.

Hey everyone!
Tax season arrived, along with that lovely little "surprise" audit. Isn't life just grand? I barely have enough time to catch my breath.

Hey everyone, I’m finally heading out for some much-needed time off. Technically, I'm already mentally checked out as of Monday. I really hope you all get a chance to unplug and enjoy yourselves too... just for a bit, forget about the accounting, the finances, and the tax codes...☕

I’m not running a retail chain, an import business, or a restaurant group, so I suppose I don't have much room to complain.

I honestly get worked up every single time I hear about payroll tax filings.;
Between the monthly payroll reports, the sales tax deadlines, the wage-related filings, and then the end-of-month VAT reconciliations,
you spend the entire month just stressing over whether you actually submitted every last damn report or if you accidentally skipped one somewhere...
And don't even get me started on reporting unpaid wages versus when they actually hit the bank, or separating out per diems and travel reimbursements... it’s absolute chaos. Who is supposed to keep track of all that? We really need one dedicated account just for disbursements and non-payments to handle the withholding calculations properly.
How am I supposed to go on vacation? I swear, Larry Summers and his arbitrary deadlines are driving me insane. We used to have two possible deadlines; now we’re juggling four. 🙂

I’m crossing my fingers for you while you hunt for that new role 🙂.
I actually just started a new position myself—though "started" might be an understatement since I was dropped into a new system with absolutely zero training. There’s nobody to call for help, and the technical support is basically non-existent. It's been a bit of a whirlwind, but oh well, let's just grab a coffee and toast to better luck ☕!

Hey everyone, I just needed a place to vent because I don't really have anyone else to turn to right now... Today marks my first day without my colleague, who was basically my lifeline here. She handled everything—travel expenses, logistics, purchase orders, vendor relations, client comms, payments, you name it. She was incredible—always eager to learn, proactive, and ready to jump into new tasks while juggling her current workload. Honestly, I don't get why employers show zero appreciation for their staff and just let people walk out the door when they know their worth. It feels like the ones getting paid the most are the loudmouths who talk a big game but actually contribute nothing, while the real pros get overlooked. To make matters worse, my boss is currently planning to report unpaid wages as fully settled to the FBI, all with his "supervisor's" blessing—even though one of our branches is already significantly behind on payroll. Everything just hit me at once today. I’m holding onto the hope that this new job opportunity I’ve been eyeing works out, and that they’ll actually value what I bring to the table. Anyway, just needed to grab a quick coffee break and vent. What do you all think?☕

Hey Jessica Grant56 and the rest of you!
We really need to shift our perspective when it comes to year-end closing and accounting in general. I learned this lesson the hard way a long time ago, and ever since then, I’ve told myself that my own peace of mind comes first. Honestly, it just hurts me too much to stress over other people's money and their messy problems. My approach now is simple: I handle my own books strictly by the book and do the best job I possibly can, but once that's done, the rest is entirely up to everyone else.

Same here. Honestly, I think I’m just going to call it a day and tackle this sales tax filing tomorrow.
Well, I gave it one more shot and actually managed to pull it off.
The IRS website actually posted a notice saying they're having technical issues and suggesting people keep trying periodically.
