I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how much we value continuity in sports versus how much it actually helps a team win. We always get so emotional about "the core" or the legends staying together, but sometimes it feels like we’re just clinging to nostalgia instead of looking at what the roster actually needs to evolve.

Don't get me wrong, I love seeing a certain era of a franchise stay intact. There's something special about a group that has gone through the wars together. But there's a fine line between building around a foundation and just refusing to let go of the past. I see it happen all the time—teams get stuck in a specific way of playing because they're too loyal to the guys who won it all years ago, even if the league has moved on without them.

Do you think sticking with the veterans who define an era is better for a team's culture, or is it better to force a total rebuild even if it means losing all that chemistry?

some other thread on this forum

If I’ve got one option, I don't have a choice. If I’ve got two, I’ve got a dilemma. If there are three, it’s a trilemma. So, who actually had enough options to even claim they have freedom?

If free will isn't real, how am I supposed to worry about karma? I mean, assuming past lives are a thing, if what I just said is true, then karma is being built under controlled (non-free) conditions. Or maybe there was just one life, back at the beginning, where we all had freedom and just blew it? Or, following Western teachings, it's all Adam and Eve's fault. That would imply freedom doesn't exist, which means karma can't exist either.

If there’s no freedom, then this whole setup is just a prison. Think about it—the only place where nobody is truly free is in jail. And once you start poking at metaphysical questions, you realize exactly what kind of prison this is. In that case, we've all actually lucked out, considering where we are.

It turns out God has a pretty twisted sense of humor, and honestly, I don't get it. I've spent my whole life praying to God and, above all, valuing wit. Now I'm wondering why my own sense of humor is so warped. Don't pray to God for a sense of humor. You'll just end up lost somewhere between karma and free will, concluding that you're living in hell. You're better off just watching Seinfeld.
