What is the ¤ symbol used for?

So, I started out digging through all these different mathematical symbols—some of them actually look pretty similar to the ¤
symbol. Then, I plugged that character into WolframAlpha and eventually tracked down its Unicode after a quick Google search
It honestly took me two full hours to finally figure out where this thing is actually used and what it signifies. I was genuinely curious about its purpose. I have to admit, I felt a little let down—I was expecting AltGr Z u
to have some much more significant role in the grand scheme of things. Turns out, it’s just placed before a number to indicate that you're talking about currency in a general sense. It doesn't specify a particular dollar amount or a specific type of money; you're supposed to infer that from the surrounding context. In plain English? You’ll probably never see it in the wild.
