Gaming PC build under $400 in Desktops ·
Hmm, if we were to include an additional $167 even without an SSD, would there be any meaningful room for improvement, or would the overall performance remain largely unchanged?

Hi everyone. A friend of mine is looking to pick up a new PC, so I figured I’d drop by here and tap into the expertise of those who know their hardware better than I do.
The build is primarily intended for gaming. He just needs the tower itself—no HDD required, though we might look at an SSD if it stays within the $4,000 budget. He'll likely be financing the motherboard on a payment plan.
Thanks in advance! 🙂

I’m using that PSU on my old rig right now and it seems fine, but I don't want this new processor just sitting around gathering dust. It wasn't cheap, and it won't fit on my old motherboard, haha.

It seems unlikely that you actually snapped both RAM slots; you’d likely remember applying that much force, especially if you were trying to seat them incorrectly. It's more probable that you bent some pins in the CPU socket or perhaps there's just a loose connection somewhere.

I've honestly tried everything I could think of or found online, and nothing has worked. 😅

I've already gone through everything you mentioned, which is exactly why I decided to just pull the trigger on a new one. I'm officially out of ideas. 😅

Honestly, I’m not entirely sure what went wrong here.
I was reapplying thermal paste because my CPU had started overheating strangely, causing the system to shut down. While I was at it, I decided to blow out some dust from the motherboard since it hadn't been cleaned in a while—the buildup was getting on my nerves. I pulled everything out of the slots, cleared the dust, reseated everything, and powered it up; it worked fine initially. But the next time I tried to boot, I got nothing but a black screen. It isn't the GPU, as I tested it on another motherboard, and the RAM seems fine too. My best guess is a memory issue, though I can't even get into the BIOS or see any activity; the screen stays black, and there's no keyboard response at all.

Hey everyone, I'm currently running an MSI H81M-P33 paired with an Intel Core i5 4460 and an MSI GTX 750 Ti.
Unfortunately, my motherboard seems to have died—if my assessment is correct, the RAM slots are shot—so I need to pick up a replacement. I'm torn between just grabbing the same model again or stepping up to something more modern, maybe in the $167 range. If anyone has any advice, I’d appreciate it 🙂.

I don't really have any use for a disc drive, but I definitely need a new case—mine is over 10 years old now, haha.

edit: What exactly would happen if I swapped in this more powerful GPU?

Thanks,
Quick question: would this power supply
and this hard drive
fit this current setup? I'm hoping to avoid buying entirely new parts if they aren't compatible.
If they work, I might have enough left over to upgrade to a better CPU or maybe a decent GPU.

Hi,
I'm looking to put together a new PC and could use some advice.
Gaming is my main priority here.
My budget is around $4,800, though I might be able to stretch to $5,000 if necessary.
I also need a monitor included in that—nothing smaller than 19''.
Payment method: using a Visa card with 12 monthly installments.
Thanks in advance.

Is it even worth upgrading for $2k, or am I better off just dropping $3.5k or $4k on something decent so I can actually have some peace of mind for a while?

One more question: what kind of 6-core processors does this motherboard actually support? It mentions UCC, implying you can scale up to 6 cores, but I'm not quite following how that works.

Hm, just one question: what’s the reasoning behind getting a new motherboard?

I actually already have 4GB of RAM (it says x2 up there if you didn't catch it), but alright 🙂
and I'm running at 1920x1080 resolution on Windows 7 64-bit
