Who's actually to blame? in Psychology & Therapy ·

The only way forward is to try and break out of that cycle of negativity. It takes time to heal... some people manage on their own, while others need a little help to get there...

Exactly. And really, the big question is how much capacity we actually have to forgive someone who dragged us through the mud and left us in this mess. 😉

Forgetting isn't an option, and as for forgiving? That’s a different story for everyone.

It’s almost impossible to pull off in real life.😍 How is someone supposed to just "walk away" from stuff that happened 5, 10, or 15 years ago?🤷 And let's face it—it’s usually those family dynamics, toxic patterns, and deep-seated issues from childhood that set the stage for everything else going wrong later on.

You hit the nail on the head. I went through my fair share of hell during those exact years myself. My relationship with my mother was incredibly strained; honestly, if she had shown even a shred of empathy back then, I might be a completely different person today. I say "might," though—I don't necessarily blame her entirely for where I ended up.

As for getting support from people around me when I got sick, I don't know about you guys, but I definitely didn't find much of it.

Do you think other people are responsible for our mental state, or are we the ones to blame for everything going wrong in our lives?

Maybe if we had just walked away from certain people sooner, we’d actually be living better, more fulfilling lives right now. We wouldn't be stuck dealing with depression or carrying around these heavy mental health struggles that eventually spiral into actual physical illness...

It’s a common pattern: once someone gets sick, everyone around them starts pointing fingers, acting like it’s their own fault. People rarely stop to ask about the environment that person was living in or the sheer amount of trauma they endured before finally hitting a breaking point.

So, who is actually at fault?

What’s your take? How much of your current situation or your illness do you attribute to the people around you?

I’m pretty sure we all have those moments where we just crack up at our own thoughts. 🤷
