PC won't boot after update in IT Support ·
Repair? You mean a system recovery, or something else entirely? That’s really all I can wrap my head around right now. To be honest, I'm a complete novice when it comes to this stuff—I haven't the slightest clue how to actually format a hard drive or handle any of those deeper technical maneuvers. My computer was actually being serviced earlier today to get some drivers cleaned up and installed, so I'm assuming the issue isn't stemming from that. Should I dive in and attempt a recovery myself, or would it be wiser to just sit tight and wait for the next software update to roll out?

Hey there! I'm running a Toshiba s55 with Windows 10. Everything was smooth sailing until Microsoft pushed a recent update, and now things have gotten... weird. Since that update, my laptop won't actually boot up unless I mash some random key on the keyboard. It just sits there staring at me with the "Toshiba : Leading Innovation" logo on the screen. Sometimes it finally kicks into gear if I hit Home, End, Page Up, or Page Down, and other times it’s just any old letter.
Everything else seems to be functioning perfectly fine. Do you think this could actually be caused by that update?

I’m not actually having any trouble booting up, so I figured I’d just drop a note here instead of cluttering things up with a brand-new thread. I’ve got this General Electric Satellite laptop that’s about three years old, and luckily, I still have two years left on the manufacturer's warranty. Everything was running smoothly until about a month ago when things took a bizarre turn. Out of nowhere, my keyboard started acting possessed—for instance, if I pressed the "A" key, it would spit out "ssss16." That happened with almost every key, usually resulting in some weird string of "16" appearing everywhere. Then, the file system went haywire; I couldn't open folders properly because they’d show up as "read only," and instead of moving files, the OS would just create shortcuts while leaving the originals sitting right there on the desktop. Even browsing in Firefox became a nightmare—trying to type anything in the search bar would just trigger more "16" inputs, opening random tabs and making the screen flicker incessantly. After two days of chaos, things actually seemed to stabilize, right up until last Friday. This morning, I tried using a cookie-clearing utility via a right-click (since the left-click wasn't responding), and suddenly, everything seems back to normal.
It feels pretty obvious to me that this glitch is just waiting in the wings to strike again, so I was wondering if anyone has any insight into what might be causing such erratic behavior?

Hey there,

Can anyone shed some light on why this keeps popping up on my screen and what I can do to make it go away for good? I’ve got a perfectly fine internet connection, so I have no idea what's causing the hiccup here. To make matters worse, whenever I try clicking "switch to," it just kicks me straight back to the Start menu. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I guess that’s the case. My apologies—this is actually my very first laptop, so I hadn't quite wrapped my head around the fact that they don't operate exactly like a desktop setup. Anyway, how long do I really need to leave it plugged in? Does it need to be powered on while it's charging, or can I just let it sit there? The manual is being a bit vague on the specifics, so I figured I'd ask here. Thanks!

Hi there,

So, about two weeks ago, I picked up a brand new Toshiba laptop. It didn't come with Windows pre-installed, so it’s basically just been sitting safely in its box this whole time. I finally pulled it out today, feeling all excited to get it running, expecting that familiar Toshiba logo to pop up on a black screen—you know, that little bit of text you see when you first turn it on? I'm really not a tech person, so I can't quite put a name to what that screen actually is, but I remember seeing it when I first tested it at the shop. Anyway, long story short, nothing is happening. It’s just... dead. No response at all. What should my next move be? Should I just pack it back up and take it straight back to the store for a replacement, or is this something that can actually be fixed?
