And just so sweet... 🙂

Man, there’s really nothing quite like seeing a grandmother holding her grandchild; you can just tell she’s absolutely melting from pure happiness. 🙂

Way to go. 👍

That whole thing about recording was just me messing around—maybe I'll bring it up again once they actually start talking.

Me too,
but I'm waiting until Baby finishes recording and lets us hear it. 😬

I’m actually going to suggest to Grace Anderson3 that she records Baby on Voice Memos so we can all finally hear what he sounds like.😬

Grace Anderson3 said:We knew from the get-go that we wouldn't be getting much help from grandparents, unless my parents come visit us here or over in the States. There are perks to it, though—less unsolicited advice and people sticking their noses into our business.
When I mentioned Hans's family, I was mostly talking about his mother. Jean would love to come see us, but she’s already had two trips fall through, likely because of the friction with Hans's father. That man has a real habit of being condescending and struggles with alcoholism. He had a birthday recently and expected Hans to drop by😕 (it's only about an hour and a half drive) but we had just been discharged from the clinic; I was still recovering, and the little one had just finished therapy. It honestly drives me crazy thinking that Hans's mother might miss out on seeing us just because of him. It breaks my heart to see Hans so disappointed, but then again, it didn't really surprise us—at least not me.

Man, I really feel for Hans regarding his dad.
The grandmother will probably end up visiting less often than she'd like because of all that drama, but I'm sure she'll still make the trip.
You clearly see both sides of the coin when it comes to being distant from family. If they're too close, they're constantly meddling in everything, but if they're too far away, you barely see them at all.

I noticed you asked Anthony Nguyen81 about sibling jealousy.
Once again, I can only give you examples of people with kids from my own circles.

To be honest, I haven't seen a single case where the older child wasn't jealous, to some degree or another, once the competition arrived.
With some families, it's pretty mild—maybe just demanding extra attention from the parents or insisting that both kids have identical toys, otherwise they'll fight over the one they have. But with others, it's so intense it's actually hard to watch.

I know this little boy, maybe three and a half, who pushes his younger brother, gives him a smack on the head whenever he gets the chance, refuses to share a single toy, snatches things right out of his hands, acts like everything belongs to him, and even steps on or kicks the kid's clothes. And he does the whole thing with a smile on his face. I feel so bad for the younger one, and I really hope he grows out of it eventually.

Grace Anderson3, I can see you’ve got everything under control—watching, planning, and executing perfectly.

I’m with you on that—they really ought to sit down and have a real conversation.

Grace Anderson3 said:Baz 🙂 I only just caught this post because we were both typing at the exact same time yesterday and I completely missed it. I’ve already started cutting out the foods that cause bloating, though I have to wonder if that grilled chicken was the culprit—Hans opted for the seasoned pieces instead of the plain ones this time around. Honestly, I also suspect it might be linked to that specific tea I've been sipping to deal with some mild bladder irritation; I'm trying to stay ahead of it with preventative measures because the last thing I want is for my doctor to put me on antibiotics, since that would mean I'd have to stop breastfeeding.🤷

You’ll figure out exactly what’s eating at him once he grows a bit stronger and finds his footing.
Hang in there. 🙂

🤣🤣

He’s still in school, though not studying culinary arts.😁

Oh man, I just remembered something—one of my friends mentioned her baby actually slept the best when she was working as a dishwasher. I don’t even need to tell you she was on her feet constantly; she’d just pop the little one into a bouncer and keep them right there in the kitchen with her while she worked. 😬

Grace Anderson3 said:It might actually be his very first word—just because he’s so persistent about wanting more, I honestly wonder how Hans manages to fit so much milk inside him (he's already gained 25 ounces more than when he was born 🙂).

One less-than-ideal development—the crying—has hit a new peak now that his appetite has spiked alongside these frequent colic fits. I found myself weeping yesterday after he spent two straight hours being fussy and inconsolable. We're spending most of our time just holding him after every feeding now, mostly to try and head off any extra crying caused by those cramps. We're really banking on those probiotic drops helping things move along in his gut eventually.
Now that I have a little bit of experience under my belt, I’ve realized there are some things people just don't talk about enough; for instance, the way he screams during diaper changes used to terrify me at first. I kept worrying he was in actual pain or that he'd somehow hurt his neck... but my pediatrician explained that for newborns, being undressed is just this "new, strange, and unsettling" sensation, which is why they freak out. Two friends of mine shared similar stories, though one's situation sounded even more intense: her baby would actually hold his breath while being changed, almost turning blue. After hearing that, Baby's screaming doesn't seem quite as scary, and obviously not every change is that dramatic, but it's still going to take me some time to find my zen during these rougher moments.

Thanks for listening.

🙂

Grace Anderson3, I know how hard this is and that there isn't much you can say in those heavy moments. 🙂

I can only tell you what I've seen around me. Most babies deal with colic and all that crying and struggling. For some, it drags on until they're six months old, while for others, it passes much earlier and much more smoothly.

A friend of mine noticed her little one's cramps seemed tied to her own diet, so once she cut out peas, cabbage, and spicy foods, things improved significantly. It might be worth tracking whether what you eat affects his cramping.

For some, probiotic drops did the trick.

Everyone tells you not to hold the baby constantly or they'll get used to it, yet everyone ends up carrying them day and night anyway. Honestly, what else is there to do but try everything you can? 🙂

Honestly, people who claim they can't stand the mobsters are just clearly jealous of anyone who actually pulls the look off.

I just hope the little guy eats well and gets some solid sleep tonight.
Once he finally drifts off, you should definitely take that chance to get some rest yourself.
