Do a therapist's personal beliefs actually matter?

The bare minimum we could implement would be a mandatory interview process for anyone applying to psychology programs.
Honestly, whenever I see the caliber of applicants enrolling in those departments, it gives me the chills. When I hear a prospective psychologist suggest that pedophilia and homosexuality are on the same level, or claim that being gay is a sin, I can't help but think that a rigorous interview could prevent a total disaster.
Of course, a freshman is still a long way from becoming a licensed psychologist or a psychiatrist, but even this small procedural step is better than nothing at all.
