IRS and Tax Filing Issues in Business, Accounting & Taxes ·
I’ve been navigating the online IRS filing system for about three years now, and I find myself genuinely hoping they might roll out a few more digital forms this season...
This year, they finally added the IDD form alongside the standard ID one—which was about time, if you ask me—but in my humble opinion, there is still a glaring gap in their digital suite; specifically, the PPMIPO form for hospitality business owners, which I am still forced to lug physically down to the local tax office.
Aside from that single, rather tedious chore, everything else goes through the web seamlessly, and the electronic confirmations I receive are accepted without any hiccups wherever I need them.

I’ve been using Synesis since way back in 1997—honestly, we’re talking about the days when we were still running on DOS—so I practically have the whole thing memorized by heart.

For a while there, everything was sending perfectly fine through Outlook, but now? Well, I suspect some recent security update has gone and completely thrown a wrench in the works.
I even reached out to Pupill, but unfortunately, they weren't able to offer much help since the headache seems to be rooted in Outlook itself rather than anything involving their specific software...

I had really hoped that someone in this community might have the insight to tell me exactly how to fix this mess...

Some people aren't receiving any attachments at all, even though my email actually lands in their inbox...
Others get the message just fine, but they find themselves staring at an attachment they can't even open. Honestly, don't kill me, but I can't quite recall the exact technical name for this specific attachment type... I think Microsoft Outlook encrypted it into some sort of "winmail" format or something similar like that.

It’s nothing fancy—just a standard PDF document generated directly from my accounting software, so I'm not exactly dragging and dropping files or using a right-click to send them manually.
The strange thing is, if I save that PDF to my hard drive, right-click it, and select "Send to... Mail Recipient," everything works perfectly; everyone receives the email along with the attachment without a hitch. But the moment my accounting software, Synesis, tries to handle the sending process itself, the whole thing falls apart.

I haven't had any issues with Synesis in the past, so I'm starting to suspect that there might be some misconfigured setting buried somewhere within Microsoft Outlook's preferences.

I’m running into this exact same headache with Microsoft Outlook, and I’m using an account through AT&T here.

The thing is, whenever I try to send an attachment, the recipient ends up with absolutely nothing—even if I take the precaution of switching from Rich Text over to Plain Text just to be safe.
I’ve spent quite a bit of time digging through various tech forums, and it seems I’m certainly not alone in this struggle; it’s clearly not just some isolated glitch on my end. From what I can gather, this mess usually crops up when the person on the receiving end is still messing around with something like Outlook Express instead of using a modern version of Microsoft Office. I even stumbled upon a mention of a specific patch that’s supposed to fix this, which you might want to try installing if you can find it. (Though, honestly, good luck hunting that down!)

In the end, I just threw my hands up in frustration and decided to install Windows Live Mail from the Windows Live Essentials suite, since I’m still running Windows 7. It’s essentially a slightly more polished version of Outlook Express, and once I switched, everything started working perfectly fine again.

I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on this thread, as I would truly love to see someone actually nail down a permanent fix for this issue.
