I was watching some highlights from last night and it got me thinking about how much the perception of certain positions has shifted. It feels like everyone is obsessed with the flashy, highlight-reel plays—the massive deep balls or the acrobatic catches that look great on a social media reel.
Don't get me wrong, I love the big plays, but there’s something so much more satisfying about watching a player who is willing to get their hands dirty. I'm talking about the guys who do the grueling, unglamorous stuff that actually keeps a drive alive. It's the grit, the positioning, and the willingness to do the heavy lifting when no one is cheering.
It feels like we’re moving toward a world where if you aren't putting up "star" numbers or looking flashy, you're considered replaceable. But in my opinion, the backbone of any great team is the person willing to do the work that doesn't show up in a highlight package.
Do you think we overvalue individual stardom at the expense of the players who actually provide the foundation for success?
