C.G. Jung - Man and his symbols

I recently finished reading Jung's "Man and his symbol," and I’m curious what you all think about the work and his general approach to dream interpretation. Is this stuff just pure speculation and guesswork, or is there actual substance behind it? Personally, I enjoyed the book quite a bit—that blend of psychology and mythology is fascinating—but I wonder how much scientific weight it actually carries. Also, as a prospective therapist, I want to know if his theories still hold up today or if they've been tossed aside. Are they still being used in psychoanalysis?
