What's the point of required reading?

What would actually bother me more is if my kid was just that dim—forced to read some garbage book, and then being so incapable that they can't even make up a single thing they supposedly liked about it. Instead, they just parrot someone else like, "the book sucked," just to get a cookie. 🤦
I’d much rather deal with the kids who scavenge the internet to dodge a boring book just to scrape by with a passing grade—at least those kids showed some initiative 😁 compared to the ones who aren't even lazy enough to finish the reading, yet are too brainless to come up with two decent sentences about what they just read. 🙄
Unless, of course, the little one is actually a total badass and just couldn't care less about any of this. 😎
