High School Guide: Admissions, reviews, and advice in Students & Teens ·
Just because last year’s cutoff was at a certain level doesn't mean it'll be the same this year.
It could drop, or it could climb—there's no way to know for sure until the numbers are in.

Our kids aren't even enrolling until next year, so I'm just lurking this thread for now.
Question: This is about the school application ranking—like, what's your first, second, or fifth choice? If my kid ends up deciding they actually want the third school on their list instead of the first one—even if they technically qualified for all three—can we change our minds later, or are we stuck with whichever one they got into first?

They look at English, math, and social studies, and then they pick three additional subjects depending on the specific school and the student's track... basically, it's just based on the GPA from fifth and sixth grade...

The criteria include English, math, and a first foreign language—which could be Spanish instead of English (that's how it works in some districts here)—plus the cumulative GPA from fifth through eighth grade, calculated to two decimal places.

Which high schools or specific majors actually have a future and offer decent paychecks (specifically for women)? I honestly don't have anyone to ask about this.

Washington, D.C.—I meant to write that earlier but totally blanked, my bad.

I need some advice here:
My daughter is currently in 7th grade, maintaining a 4.6 GPA. To break it down—she’s pulling 4s in four of her core subjects and 5s in two others, while most of her electives are mostly 5s. She’s already decided she doesn't want to go the traditional high school route; she’d rather head to a vocational school and then jump straight into college.
She isn't particularly drawn to math, chemistry, or physics.
She’s definitely more of a creative soul—she does dance and all that sort of thing.

Which vocational track should we be looking at? Obviously, the final decision will depend on her actual points from those core classes.
She keeps asking me which direction she should start leaning toward just to give her some motivation for 8th grade, but honestly, I’m stumped on what to tell her.

I'm not entirely sure if something like business or economics would suit her.
Sometimes it feels like guys have way more options laid out for them than girls do.
