Can I issue invoices as an individual? in Business, Accounting & Taxes ·
and there you have it, the perfect fix🙂
after all that overthinking and spiraling through endless theories, I think I finally stumbled onto a dead-simple solution.

It’s definitely doable if you dig through the federal statutes regarding mandatory obligations. Don't quote me on the specifics, but I'm pretty sure you can register as a sole proprietor—not quite a full-blown corporation—and still technically be classified as an individual taxpayer.
Sure, that sounds fine in theory, but what happens when you try to sell something directly to a major corporation as just a private citizen? That's where things get messy...
Wait, I think I just hit on a solution, a little lightbulb moment just popped into my head
What if they bring you on as a freelance contractor? You basically sell them whatever they need under that umbrella, and then they just log it in their books as a service payment, even though you're essentially just selling them a product. Of course, on paper, you'd just be another independent contractor.

well, things are a little tricky here, aren't they?
I mean, look, an individual just can't go around issuing invoices out of thin air; unless you have a registered business or perhaps some kind of seasonal work permit through the IRS, you don't really have that option, but even if you did manage to pull that off, you'd still technically be operating under your status as a private individual.
