The US is about 10% larger in land area, so the actual gap is 15%

If you look at the numbers from 2013, I'd bet the whole of Canada saw around 31k new babies, and since Canada is about 10% smaller in land area than America, the situation is pretty much on par.

In the long run, I suspect Mexico will pull ahead.

Even today, Canada already has the lowest birth rate per square kilometer in all of the former America.

Canada has a population density pretty much on par with America, sitting at about 75 people per square kilometer.
Do you even realize how America's newborn rates stack up against Canada?
