Traffic violation procedures in Criminal and Misdemeanor Law ·

Under the old laws, you were supposed to just get a written warning for a single fine of up to $100, and thank God I only got hit with a parking ticket for $100. I filed an appeal based on the very rules they allow, but they just brushed me off and told me I had to pay up. Does anyone know if they actually have any way to force my hand here? By any logic, they shouldn't be able to throw me in jail over this—I'm a college student, and that would completely derail my education, especially since we're talking about minor infractions.

Well, under the new law, they’re technically only supposed to give a warning, but these lowlifes won't do it....
In your appeal, just state that you want a formal hearing so you can present your side of the story... don't overthink it. You have to include the citation number... list that out and make three copies: send two via certified mail and keep one for yourself. Definitely hang onto that certified mail receipt—it's your proof that you filed the appeal within the legal window (8 days)....

If you want, I can send you a template I use for writing appeals...

Absolutely. File the appeal. And if you ever end up in front of a judge, just be respectful—be polite, express regret, and say "thank you, your honor." That's it.

Take a look at this—it explains how people set up LLCs specifically because they don't hold the required certifications themselves... though obviously, the startup costs vary quite a bit.

Are you sure about that?

Just set up an LLC ☕

If my math checks out...
If you’re setting up an LLC, you don't need any specific credentials—but if you go the sole proprietorship route, you’ll likely need some hospitality training or have to pass a server certification exam just to get by... ☕
