How to extract specific data from a PDF? in Software ·

Sandra Morales6 said:Hey there...
First off, sorry if I'm asking something that's already been asked. I scanned through the first 23 pages and didn't see anything, and I honestly didn't have the patience to dig any deeper because this is actually pretty important to me...

So, here's the deal... I've got a laptop running the 64-bit version of Windows 7 and Microsoft Word 2010. Since I write for a living—and I've started working on some pretty serious projects lately—I really need an American spell check. When I'm in the zone, I don't catch every little typo, and I definitely don't want to waste time scrolling back through hundreds of pages just to fix mistakes. It's a total headache. Does anyone know where I can find or download that spell check? I checked the Microsoft Office site and saw a massive list of languages, but I couldn't find American listed anywhere... maybe I'm just overlooking it or my "Google skills" are failing me miserably, but I'd be seriously grateful if someone could point me in the right direction... thanks!!!

And yeah, if anyone knows where to get it for free, I’d be even more thankful... :P

I could really use some help here, if anyone actually knows what they're doing...
So, here’s the deal: Word keeps opening up in landscape mode with these tiny, ridiculous margins, and frankly, it’s driving me up the wall. It’s like the software has a mind of its own lately. Every single time I sit down to actually get some work done, I have to waste my breath manually fixing the orientation and resetting the margins just to get back to a normal workspace. It’s a massive time-sink and feels completely broken. Is there an actual way to force this thing to behave? I want to switch it back to portrait and set my preferred margins once, and then—this is the crucial part—have it actually *stay* that way. I need a way to save these settings as the default so I don't have to play this repetitive game of catch-up every time I launch the program. How do I make these changes permanent?

Go to File, hit Page Setup, then Margins, select Portrait, set it to Default, and just click OK. If a little pop-up window tries to grill you with more questions after that, don't overthink it—just click 'Yes' and move on.
  • If you're trying to mess with your page margins, don't let the software drive you crazy. It’s one of those things that seems simple until you're staring at a screen wondering why your text is hugging the edge like it's terrified of the white space. Basically, if you want to change how much breathing room you have around your text, you need to head over to the Layout tab. From there, look for the Margins option. You can pick one of the pre-set layouts—like "Normal" or "Narrow"—if you're feeling lazy, or you can go into "Custom Margins" if you want to get precise. It’s a bit like adjusting the seating in a movie theater; you either want everyone packed in tight to save space, or you want plenty of aisles so nobody's bumping elbows. Just a heads up: if you start playing with margins too aggressively, especially if you've got images or tables floating around, the whole document might start acting like a glitchy mess. If you're working on something important, just take it slow and check your layout after every tweak.

Look, you just need to run the diagnostic tool. If you can't figure out where that setting is hiding, just try asking over at -> http://www.officeformachelp.com/support/
Timothy Watson5 said:Basically, here’s the deal: whenever I try to drop a chart into Word, I get hit with this annoying error message: "To insert a chart, you must close any open dialog boxes or cancel editing mode in Microsoft Office Excel." Can someone please walk me through how to fix this so I can actually get my charts working? Thanks a ton in advance.

  • First, go ahead and click on Microsoft Office image, then head over to the Program Options—and just remember, the "Program Name" part basically refers to whatever software you're currently stuck in, like Word options.

  • From there, find and select the Resources tab.

  • Click on Diagnostics, then hit Continue, and finally, select Run Diagnostics.

How do I delete my photos? in Forum Help! ·
Look, you can't actually delete a post once it's up, but if you used an external image hosting site, you've still got options for getting rid of the pictures.

For instance, if you used Imgur, just drop the links to the specific images you want gone into the request form, and they'll have them wiped within about 24 hours.

vividwolf48 said:I’m thinking about starting a small business without a physical storefront—basically a mobile computer and peripheral repair service, handling both hardware and software support. I recently left my job after 12 years in the industry, so I finally want to strike out on my own. I'm not entirely sure if this is doable or what the legal requirements would be... Could anyone provide some professional insight? Help me out, guys...

Of course it's possible. Just go through everything already posted in this thread -> IT services

Look, if you’ve actually sat down and hammered out a solid business plan—one that clearly maps out exactly how and when you're going to see a profit—then starting your own small business makes total sense. I mean, let’s be real: no plan survives first contact with reality perfectly, and things are bound to go sideways eventually. But if you have a roadmap? It’s absolutely worth the leap.

As for those government grants and tax incentives everyone keeps talking about, don't just sit there waiting for it to fall into your lap. You need to get on the phone and grill the local Small Business Administration office yourself. Before you even bother with that, though, go check out http://www.sba.gov/.
