Starting a small business in Business, Accounting & Taxes ·

Can you run something like a stationery shop alongside this kind of work (photocopying and digital printing)?

I’m pretty sure you'd need to register a small retail business too—not 100% certain, though.

Does the process drag on for months or is it pretty fast?

The government tends to drag its feet—always. They paid me one portion of my grant, but now they're stalling on the rest even though I've checked every single box they asked for. Still waiting.

So, regarding unemployment grants, you can't grab those unless you've been at the job center for six months—as for the benefit increase, honestly, I have no clue.

Yeah, I've heard that too—they really tend to stall when it comes to that stuff. But word on the street is that this one-time boost to the benefits is supposed to move fast. Now, whether that's actually happening or just talk? Who knows. I'm totally lost on that one.

Look, if you get laid off and qualify for unemployment benefits, you can actually pull that whole lump sum at once if you're planning to kick off your own small business or whatever. It really just comes down to how many months of benefits you're eligible for and what your average paycheck looked like—basically, how much cash we're talking about here. I saw this mentioned on their official website, but honestly, I have no clue how it works in the real world. Like, does the government drag their feet for months, or is the payout actually fast? I don't know.

Usually, you'd expect morning levels to be somewhere between 10-40pg/ml, and then by evening, they should be hitting 60 - 120 pg/ml.
Once I started taking 3mg of Melatonin, things totally turned around and I've been sleeping like a baby. And get this—when I finally stopped the Melatonin, I could still fall asleep just fine without it... I actually feel way better now.

Wait, how exactly are you testing it?

I've been working nothing but night shifts for 13 years now, and for the last 2 or 3 years, I’ve just been feeling completely wiped out. It gets to the point where I wake up feeling even more exhausted than when I actually went to bed. About once every two weeks, I’ll take some Normabel before hitting the sack and it helps, but the thing is, it’s addictive, so I can't just rely on it all the time. When I complained to my doctor about having zero energy—even after getting 7 or 8 hours of sleep—and how three hours after waking up I just want to pass out again, leaving me totally unable to do anything physical (I can't even go for a walk with my family!), he just brushed me off and said it's because of the night shifts and that's that. End of story.
Anyway, a buddy told me about Melatonin and suggested it might help. Please, let me know what you guys think or if you have any advice.

Thanks

Well, damn, it IS because of the night shifts, and honestly, the best move would be finding a regular job. But man, good luck finding one in this economy... anyway, once you eventually switch to a normal schedule, maybe you'll start feeling like yourself again, or maybe not, who knows... bottom line is you gotta find some kind of fix because you can't just let this drain you and screw you over forever. I've been working shifts for about 8 years myself, so I know exactly what you're talking about, but I can't really offer much help right now since I'm stuck in the same boat...

I haven't tried Melatonin myself, but if you give it a shot, let us know how it goes.

Maybe try heading over to Union Square, there's a pharmacy around there that might be able to order something for you. Anyway, since you're working shifts, what kind of rotation are you running? Have you been dealing with this crap since you first started?

Personally, the night shift is absolutely wrecking me. Not the shift itself, necessarily, but the aftermath. It didn't take long after I started rotating shifts before things started spiraling, and now everything is just getting worse and worse in every possible way.
