Hormonal Contraception: The Pill [General Discussion] in Women's Health ·
I’m inclined to agree—you probably shouldn't take them just for that reason. Every body reacts differently, you know? It’s entirely possible they won't increase in size at all. And even if there is some change, it would likely be so minimal that you’d end up feeling disappointed.
If you do decide to go ahead with it, though, please make sure you do thorough research first—just like John Thomas2 already suggested.

If I'm on birth control pills and had unprotected sex two days ago, but I'm supposed to start an antibiotic today—which I know can lower effectiveness—does that concern apply to the encounter from two days ago too, since sperm can live for up to five days? Or should I just not worry about the past encounter and focus on being extra careful during the antibiotic course and for seven days after?

Don't worry, everything is fine. Once you start the antibiotics, just use backup protection and you'll be all set.

What kind of complications am I looking at here? And more importantly, is my birth control still actually working properly? The instructions don't say a single thing about what to do when you mix up the sequence like this...

Well, which specific brand or type is she on? It really depends on the pill itself...
If they are all identical active pills—meaning there aren't any placebo or inactive tablets mixed in—then everything should be perfectly fine. Nothing bad is going to happen.

Yesterday was super heavy, but today (which is day four of the bleeding) it's pretty much gone—just some light, brownish discharge now. Is it actually normal for the bleeding to just stop on its own before the next pack starts? Usually, I’m still bleeding through the first two pills of a new cycle. And what's the deal with the protection part? Am I good from day one, or should I be using extra backup methods?
I had "relations" yesterday.

Everything is fine—really, it’s all perfectly normal. There’s no need for any extra security measures, isn't there?

For me, I had to go on antibiotics twice at different times while on the pill—once for a week and once for two weeks—and I didn't need any backup at all.

The antibiotic I’m currently on (Novocef) definitely affects my protection, but I honestly have no idea how long I need to use backup methods.
When I asked the doctor who prescribed it, she just gave me this blank stare—then she actually asked where I even heard that an antibiotic could affect it in the first place—before finally telling me it doesn't. Which, let's be honest, isn't true.
Even at the pharmacy, they didn't offer much clarity; they just told me I needed extra protection, but left me hanging on how long that should last.
If I’m taking antibiotics, how much longer should I use backup protection while on Lindynette 20?
I started the antibiotics just a day after beginning a new pack—and I have a ten-day course to finish.
Does that mean I need to keep using extra protection until my next pack starts?

As far as I can tell—and I’m just sharing what I know—whether you start your pill on the very first day of your period really only affects how quickly you're protected from pregnancy.
If you take that first pill on day one, you're protected immediately; however, if you wait until a different day during your period, you’ll need to use some extra backup protection for the next week or so.
So, looking at it from your perspective—since you started your period yesterday—I’d say go ahead and take the pill today, but just make sure to use extra protection for a week. That should be it, and there shouldn't be any issues.
It might also be worth double-checking the specific instructions for the brand you're using—just to be absolutely certain, since I don't know which ones you have.

Regarding shortening or lengthening the cycle—isn't there a rule that you always need a seven-day break? For instance, would you take 18 pills and then pause, or take 24 pills and then follow up with a mandatory seven-day break?
So, I’ve just started taking birth control pills for the very first time—specifically Lindynette 20. According to the instructions, I should begin the pack on the very first day of my period. My period actually showed up on Friday morning, so I took my first pill on Friday evening. The thing that’s really bothering me, though, is that I noticed a tiny bit of spotting during the day on Thursday—not much at all, honestly, just a few drops. Now I'm second-guessing everything—was Thursday actually the true first day of my cycle? And if so, did I take my pill too late? Most importantly, do I need to use backup protection for the next week, or am I already protected even like this?
