restlessranger30 said:Also, Ashley Kern, I have to say, your assumption that 'most people won't watch it just because it isn't a blockbuster' actually made me laugh. You're saying this on a film forum where people spend all day debating obscure movies that the average moviegoer wouldn't even recognize if they saw them 🙂 and besides, for a lot of people, seeing Jack Nicholson in the cast is enough reason to tune in. That probably includes the types who sit through stuff like Lord of the Rings, too.

😁

I don't have anything against Lord of the Rings. It's a solid movie, and it gets aired every year anyway. Instead of scheduling it for 9:30 PM when it would end right when The Godfather starts at 8:00, you know? 😉

But the truth is, this movie has been forgotten, and pretty thoroughly at that.

It definitely is 🙂

What stuck with me during my first watch was the ending, and honestly, watching it again, that ending still hits hard. And then there’s that famous diner scene 🙏

"Okay, I'll make it as easy for you as I can. I'd like an omelet, plain, and a chicken salad sandwich on wheat toast, no mayonnaise, no butter, no lettuce . . . now all you have to do is hold the chicken, bring me the toast, give me a check for the chicken salad sandwich, and you haven't broken any rules."

"You want me to hold the chicken?,"

"I want you to hold it between your knees." 🤣

I noticed yesterday that Jack has these incredibly sharp, perfect features. Probably just back when he was younger, I guess 😳

It's a shame he eventually moved into commercial work, even if he was still doing good movies and playing great characters back then

Just to recap for those who aren't following—which is probably most of you. Most people will likely be watching Lord of the Rings starting at 8:00 PM, followed by Five Easy Pieces at 11:00 PM. So, after the LOTR marathon, after 🤦

I still don't really get why people here schedule things this way. Instead of putting this movie on at 8:00 PM and then running LOTR afterward, they do the exact opposite. But I guess that's just how it goes with LOTR☕

Anyway, if you haven't seen it, give it a shot. Not much else to say. If anyone actually sits through a movie this bad, I guess they aren't exactly looking for big blockbusters🙂

It’s wild to me how the director turned Nicholson's character into this big rebel, yet he's just completely powerless in that blue-collar wasteland 🙏 feels pretty biographical to me, I guess

I'm with you on that. The ending always felt a little different to me, I guess. 🙂

This movie is on Sunday night at 11:00 PM on cable, right after Lord of the Rings🙄

I’m honestly surprised an American network is even airing this forgotten classic. I guess it's one of the better films from the 70s, so I'll probably give it another watch. What do you guys think about it?
