Starting an LLC: Where to begin?
in Business, Accounting & Taxes ·
Hey there!
So, I’ve got a few questions floating around my head, and I was hoping maybe someone here might have some insight to share if they know the ropes.
I'm thinking about starting an LLC with a buddy of mine from Canada—he isn't an American citizen, so things might be a little tricky.
1. Is it actually possible for him to be a co-owner? And if he is, would he still need to go through the whole work permit process?
2. Or, would it make more sense for him to just be an employee instead (assuming being a co-owner isn't an option)?
3. Also, could he just open the company here in the States all by himself? I mean, I wouldn't even have to get involved in the paperwork since I'm really just trying to help him out.
4. Are there any big legal hurdles or important details I should keep in mind when dealing with a foreign national acting as a co-owner, an owner, or just an employee?
Thanks so much!!
