Laptop speaker issues in IT Support ·
Pretty straightforward
If you picked it up just two or three months ago, it’s still under warranty. Just drop it off at an authorized service center and you should have it back with a brand-new speaker in a few weeks...
The issue could be the speaker itself or maybe the sound card, but as long as you didn't spill a drink on the laptop, the manufacturer is on the hook to replace the faulty part under warranty.

darkowl72 said:Games usually run at the native resolution—basically whatever the screen was built for. Sure, you can drop the resolution, but cheap, budget panels often handle downscaling like garbage, making the image look like absolute trash. Plus, changing the resolution actually makes the Graphics Card work harder to render everything, which ends up tanking your FPS.

Resolution is directly tied to how much power your Graphics Card needs. The higher the resolution, the beefier the card has to be just to push a playable 30 FPS, which is really the bare minimum before things get unplayable. There are tons of threads on this topic if you want to dig deeper; it'll make things a lot clearer for you...

When it comes to actual gaming, most people stick with Nvidia GTX cards...

Thanks for the detailed breakdown. I'll probably just go with the one with the lower resolution then.

+ Do you think an Nvidia GeForce 940 m could handle titles like Grand Theft Auto IV, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, or Far Cry 2...?

darkowl72 said:Yeah, you really need to start prioritizing graphics card power like Jeffrey Chavez6 said... And I seriously hope both of them are just standard 1366x768 resolution. If they happen to be any higher than that—you might as well forget about gaming altogether.

Both are 1920x1080... What do you mean "nothing from gaming"? Can't you just run games at a lower resolution than the monitor allows?
If not, I saw the exact same model with 1366x768 resolution for a cheaper price... should I just grab that one instead?

Stuck between two laptops:
Dell
-i3-5005U 2GHz dualcore
-Nvidia GeForce MX series (2GB)
-500GB Seagate
-$993

HP
-Pentium 3556U 1.7GHz dualcore
-Nvidia GeForce 940 m (2GB)
-1000GB Seagate
-$917

Everything else is basically the same.
At first glance, I thought it didn't matter and I'd just grab the HP, but honestly... that processor looks pretty weak. It might struggle to even run Grand Theft Auto IV, whereas the Dell at least has an i3 hitting 2.0GHz.
What do you guys think? Is it worth paying $67 more just for a decent processor if I have to lose half my storage space? Also curious about the difference in power between these two Graphics Cards.
MP3 Player - Need some advice! in IT Support ·
Try searching Google Drive for that MP3 for Windows 10. If that fails, just find a machine running Windows 7 and pull it from there. Usually, those older versions can handle anything...
Summer is coming - Best CPU Coolers? in Hardware ·
My bad for the long-windedness... but if you don't want to read it, feel free to skip.

Hey...

Summer is coming, which means free time is finally on the horizon. For me, that translates to one thing: gaming. My rig is the heavy lifter here, specifically that FX6300 processor. Sometimes I swear JFK International Airport is sitting right outside my window... between the fan noise and my headset, it sounds like a fighter jet is taking off every time I'm admiring Lara Croft's hair or getting lost in the scenery of Far Cry. Once I finally upgrade my GPU, Fallout 4 is next on the list. But that’s a whole different conversation...

So—here we go... FX6300... Yeah... Running on the stock cooler... Which one came with it? The one I mentioned before that sounds like a Canadian guy on a cement mixer in the spring... temperatures are sitting around 60°C without even trying. I know... 😵So now we get to the real question... the one that actually matters here:
Which cooler should I grab?

Budget's gone... $67 maxWhatever. Just my luck...
Tried hitting up the Links site today. It’s broken. Every single page throws a "service not available" error except for the homepage... useless.service not availible...".
Now the questions start rolling in. Why all of a sudden? Why wasn't this done before...
Built this rig piece by piece back in December 2014. Last summer, I didn't even go near it...

I'm looking for some solid recommendations from you guys. If anyone has actually gone out and bought one recently, let me know... assuming we aren't dealing with an AM3+ socket...
I don't really care which shop it is, as long as it's somewhere around Manhattan...
I don't care what kind of cooler I get. I'm not looking to overclock or play around with anything fancy. I just need something that can actually hold a line under 50°C while I'm gaming... nothing more than that.

Thanks in advance for any help...
Fastest ways to rip music from the web? in IT Support ·
If you know your way around torrents, this solves everything.
On sites like The Pirate Bay or whatever else is out there, you can find entire discographies or just single albums from local bands—not to mention all the international stuff. The selection is basically endless. You can mix and match too; if you aren't really feeling a certain band, just grab their greatest hits or one specific record... And if you care about audio quality, this beats YouTube's bitrate by a mile.
Three PC issues I'm dealing with in IT Support ·
I honestly think all four of these issues stem from the OS itself...
Just wipe it and reinstall. That’ll probably clear everything up.
If you've got a backup or another PC handy, try formatting the Hard Drive and see if it actually shows up then...
Help! My laptop is giving me a beep code in IT Support ·
So, here’s the deal.
I’ve got a Dell Inspiron.
About a month ago, the GPU (Nvidia GeForce 8600 m gt 512) died on me, so I swapped it out. Everything was running fine until today. I turned it on this morning, used it for an hour, shut it down like usual... then later tonight, I hit the power button hoping for the best. Walked away for a second, came back to a black screen. No sound. No response from the mouse. I tried a hard reset, but when I boot it up this time, I get a beep code—one long beep followed by two short ones. Screen stays dark. My guess? The graphics card is acting up again.
Any help would be appreciated... thanks.
How to recover a deleted file? in IT Support ·
Unfortunately, if Recuva didn't pick it up, it means the hard drive already overwrote that space with new data... and once that happens, there's no bringing it back.
