I mean, what choice are you really looking for? Bread, dairy, meat, deli stuff, maybe some canned goods if that's your thing—you can find all of that anywhere.

I get your point, I really do, but now isn't exactly the time to be obsessing over whether something is a dollar or two cheaper somewhere else...

If we're going to play that game, you might as well factor in the cost of gas it takes to drive all the way into the city to hit those big retailers...

Yeah, exactly—meat, chicken, frozen stuff... they just don't have it. 😁

I don't obsess over every cent or every sale, and honestly, considering gas prices are $4.00 it's better to just head out and buy what you need. Between the small grocery list and the price of produce, the gas cost pays for itself pretty damn fast because you actually have options. You don't have to settle for whatever random crap is on the shelf just because it's there.
Bottom line: in a big city, you've got choices. In a tiny rural town? You don't. More people means a higher chance of catching something...
You folks living in the city have it easy because you can just hit up a Target or a Walmart and actually have options.
Try to get that people in tiny rural towns with maybe two corner stores to their name don't have a choice... they buy what's there and that's that. No complaining about prices or selection when you're just trying to grab whatever's on the shelf to survive.
Then there's the permits—if you even get one approved, it's for a three-hour window once a week, and half the time they reject you anyway because they claim those two local shops are "enough"... good luck surviving weeks on that limited crap and those insane markups.

Basically, houses are miles apart and nobody talks to each other, plus the population is tiny. In the city, you go where you want, shop where you want, and at least there are plenty of people and actual variety in the aisles.
darktinker4 said:Look, do you actually realize they just DON'T ALLOW IT? I'm coming from a tiny little hamlet—honestly more of a village than a town—trying to get a permit to head into a nearby city 6.2 miles that's actually quite far, but it's basically just a small spot with one huge supermarket. And you know what they told me?

The official stance from the CZ headquarters and the Department of Homeland Security is that all shopping
and business should be handled within your immediate local area. Traveling is prohibited unless
you have an exceptional permit, which is only valid for a specific date.
Since there are multiple ATMs available in your location, and since following
recommendations from the Federal Reserve, almost all banks have waived fees for
withdrawing cash from other machines, your request is denied. ☕

There is literally ONE ATM, one tiny convenience store, and one small grocery shop. So yeah, they can just shove it.

Exactly what we have here—two little shops, and if one happens to close because the cashier caught a cold, we're basically screwed...

I don't see the logic when your whole township has fewer people than a single city neighborhood, and houses are spread out across fields, whereas in a city you can zip from one end to the other easily with way more people around.

Basically, you can't even grab meat or fish or do a real grocery run because those tiny local spots don't carry it. They kept saying "don't panic buy." I guess people living in the suburbs with plenty of stores can't wrap their heads around what we're dealing with.
Joseph Taylor11 said:I don't know if I've already made this clear—I'm pretty sure I have—but let me say it one more time: I don't care about being bored. It’s not a problem for me that I can't hang out with anyone... I don't mind missing out on coffee dates or trips to the hair salon. Honestly, I could sit at home for another month if that's what it takes.

But I do want the ability to at least pop into the nearby grocery store to grab some bread every other day, and I need to be able to hit up a larger supermarket once a week to stock up on essentials—you know, things like fresh fruit, veggies, and meat at the kind of places I've always shopped, all at normal, reasonable prices.

For crying out loud—is that really so hard to wrap your head around?!

And while we're talking about money:
Everything at the local corner store is marked up by 30-50%.
So, how long am I expected to keep shopping like this? Two weeks? Two months?

And nobody seems to see the issue here? 🤦

Of course not. I've already posted about this—we live in a tiny town with nothing but two little shops, so you see how bad the selection and prices are. You can only get out of town if you have a permit...
Ever tried opening this in Edge, Chrome, Opera, or whatever else... see if it still acts up.
copperwolf16 said:I have been browsing through various municipal websites lately, and frankly, the situation is nothing short of surreal. The most absurd examples are those claiming to have "fully digitized" their permit issuance processes—except this supposed digitalization consists merely of filling out a Word document and emailing it over, only for them to send back a scanned, signed copy. It begs the question: where are you even supposed to print such a thing? Or does anyone actually know if a police officer will accept a digital document displayed on a smartphone?
Then there are the municipalities announcing they will issue permits for purchasing basic groceries, but with the caveat that they can only be used twice a week. How exactly does that work? Is the officer expected to maintain a running tally of your usage every time you shop?
Some of them have barely put any effort in at all, simply pasting two lines of text into a generic template.
There are even instances where the instructions are to simply call the local precinct chief on their landline or cell phone.

I remember laughing at sketches like this in the past, but it seems we have finally crossed the threshold into reality:

In my area, the request asks for your destination address and purpose. You get a three-hour window once a week for groceries if they approve you, but now they're telling us to just use local shops (which are basically two tiny corner stores that don't even carry fish, chicken, or half the essentials). And before all this, they were yelling at everyone not to stockpile because there was no need...

They limit movement outside the township, yet houses are miles apart in rural areas, while in the cities where everyone is packed together, you're walking to the store and risking exposure constantly... It feels like the people in the small towns are the ones getting screwed by these isolation rules.
darktinker4 said:I applied for a pass for that exact same reason, and Caity told me I could just head to the bank instead.
The idiots replied saying I should just go to the nearest stores for groceries. Well, there's a Walmart right under my apartment and an NTLA, but what on earth am I supposed to buy there for actual meals? If I shop there, I'll be eating the exact same thing every single day for the next decade. It honestly makes me want to lose it.
Where am I supposed to find decent cat food and litter around here???
Or am I supposed to choose between two brands of pads that cost an arm and a leg $10??
Then Caity sends back a rejection, claiming there are plenty of ATMs in this village. There aren't "plenty" of anything—there is exactly ONE. And he has to physically go to the bank because his account is protected. Trying to explain common sense to these fools is useless.
I'm totally done with this. Honestly, I'll just pack my bags and go wherever the hell I want. As far as I'm concerned, the whole seven billion of them can just disappear. Useless worms...

Not sure how much this helps, but I posted some links over on the Delivery thread .

Check it out and see if anything works for you, and keep an eye on that thread because I'll post more whenever I find stuff.

Unfortunately, some places might not deliver to remote areas or certain spots.
As for the rest, honestly, I'm out of ideas...

Look, I’m not the first to feel this way, and I won't be the last, but I am totally fed up. Honestly, I’ve started breaking stuff around the house because I’ve lost all sense of reality. I don't know what day it is, what time it is, or where I put anything. 🙂
I'll spend an entire day looking for the same object 55 different times because I've lost my mind—or rather, my mind is just gone.

Honestly, the best thing for everyone would be if I could just take a handful of Xanax or other benzos and stare peacefully at the ceiling. This is worse than any asylum. At least back then, they'd sedate you or knock you out with a shot when you started acting wild... 🐔

I feel like I'm losing track of time too, like what day it is and all that...
I forget things constantly, but honestly, I've started watching relaxation videos, doing some light exercise, searching for random stuff online, and posting here... keeps the days moving faster, I guess...
Frank Flores63 said:If you happen to have a digital pen, maybe you could just do everything in Word and send it over without the whole mess of printing, photographing, and sending.

Thanks, I'll figure it out... 😁just speaking generally about people living in smaller towns and their age groups.
Gerald Thompson62 said:And yet, everyone was laughing at me when I said we were sliding backward and that this situation was unsustainable...

Even in our neck of the woods, it's a tiny town where you can only grab the basics at the local corner store...

No meat, no fish, none of that stuff... and getting to a Lidl, Walmart, or Kaufland? Forget it without a pass. You can't just call them up, and if you try emailing, they tell you to fill out a request, sign it, then send it back...

Which basically means print it, fill it out, sign it, and scan it... honestly, how many people even have a printer, a scanner, AND email access sitting around...
How to delete specific PDF pages? in IT Support ·
Morgan Ortiz6 said:A buddy of mine tried using a bunch of different PDF editors and those sketchy online converters, but nothing works because the file is locked tight
The creator set it to read-only or something
Any way to strip that protection away?

You won't believe how easy this is....

Security doesn't even work in Chrome, 🙂

Just pull the PDF up in Chrome, hit print, select "Save as PDF," give it a name, and boom. There you go.

The file is totally unlocked... Then just hit an online tool to remove the pages you don't want and save it..😛

Sent from my Galaxy S7 using Reddit

Keep it simple... 👍

If you want to keep everything in one PDF but ditch those extra pages, just use an online tool. Upload the PDF, delete the junk, and download it again... easy.

Just Google "Remove pages from your PDF online"

Tyler Parker4 said:I am not entirely sure I follow your point. All I know is that whenever I run the System File Checker via the command prompt, it consistently reports an issue within the CBS Log Files. I am at a loss as to how to proceed. Even when attempting minor tasks, I am met with constant errors that render my PC unusable. It is quite frustrating. Perhaps I will give it more thought tomorrow.

It displays this:

https://www.imageupload.net/image/LmVjM

The issue is listed in the CBS logs, so just head over to

C:\WINDOWS\Logs\CBS and open CBS.log

it should tell you exactly which files are trashed.

There's some info at this link if you're brave enough to tackle it

Check the Event Viewer to see if anything popped up...
Try running some hardware diagnostics through the BIOS at startup or using a utility app...
Maybe try a restore point...
Updating drivers is an option, but you’re just guessing unless you actually find out what’s causing the headache...

If you're planning on deleting files and you actually know what you're doing, just boot from something like Hiren's BootCD or whatever... it's got diagnostic tools built right in.

Check out some Bark apps online.
They’ve got mobile versions with full reporting too.
If you're looking to track every single keystroke, maybe find something that saves logs locally instead...

Looks like a permissions issue...

Check who actually has access to that folder—see which user is listed—and double-check the SMB settings too.

If they're on a different Workgroup, just toss them into the same one...

Hard to say for sure without knowing the domain setup, the OS, firewalls, permissions, whatever else is going on...

Why not just dig into the settings on that old machine and check the firewall or something?
