I was watching the game last night and it just felt so stagnant. I love a good defensive battle as much as the next guy, but there are nights where it feels like the hitters are just standing there watching paint dry. It's hard to stay glued to the screen when the momentum never actually shifts because nobody can get a hit to breathe life into the game.
I remember back in the day when even a mediocre lineup could find a gap and turn a game around in a single inning. Now, it feels like if you don't have a superstar hitting 450 feet, the scoreboard is just going to stay frozen for three hours. It's frustrating when you're rooting for an exciting matchup and you end up watching a clinic on how to strike out.
Does anyone else feel like the balance between pitching and hitting has shifted too far lately, or am I just being overly cynical about the current state of play?
