OCD: General Discussion Thread
in Psychology & Therapy ·
Hey there 🙂
I've been dealing with OCD for about 20 years now. Writing that out makes it feel like such a long time... I spent a lot of years just doing nothing about it, but eventually, I saw a psychiatrist and was prescribed Prozac and Lexapro. They helped a bit, but since I was young, I stopped taking them. I figured I could just power through it, maybe because I thought I was stronger than the condition. 👎
When things took a turn for the worse, I went back to my doctor and was put on Zoloft. I couldn't stay on it for long because the side effects were pretty intense, so I switched over to Luvox. I've been on Luvox for the last two years, adjusting doses up and down, but the intrusive thoughts and compulsions are still there—sometimes they're even more overwhelming. I guess I'm preparing to see my psychiatrist again this week to try something else, though I'm honestly not sure what to expect.
My obsessions mostly revolve around cleanliness. It’s constant hand washing, checking where I step, door handles, or the chairs I sit in. Using a public restroom is a total nightmare, and walking through a crowd can be just as bad. I constantly see blood everywhere. And honestly, I think I share that feeling many of you have—it's like living in a mental hell. 😠
I'm glad there's a place like this where you can just let it all out.
