Best online payment cards?

After taking everyone's advice, I headed down to Bank of America to open a foreign currency account, mostly because my old Visa Electron doesn't have a CVV on the back.
Once the new card arrived, I went back to the branch to double-check if it worked for online shopping. The teller flipped it over, spotted the CVV on the back, and gave me the thumbs up...
Feeling pretty good about it, I headed home to link it to my accounts, but both PayPal and Gamebookers rejected it. It won't even let me add the card; every time I try to enter the details, I just get an "invalid card number" error.😕
