Thanks.
I need some advice on what exactly to write in this appeal, because honestly, these people are total garbage. Under the old laws, you were supposed to just get a written warning for a single fine of up to $100, and thank God I only got hit with a parking ticket for $100. I filed an appeal based on the very rules they allow, but they just brushed me off and told me I had to pay up. Does anyone know if they actually have any way to force my hand here? By any logic, they shouldn't be able to throw me in jail over this—I'm a college student, and that would completely derail my education, especially since we're talking about minor infractions.
Does anyone have any insight on what would be the best approach for drafting an appeal? Should I head into court and explain that I’m just a student and don't have the means to pay, or is there a better way to handle this? I am open to any and all advice you might have.
Tonight I lived through something straight out of a slapstick comedy movie. I was just riding my bike home from the gym when a cop pulls me over right near my house. Naturally, I figured he’d just give me a quick heads-up about my lights being out, but instead, he hits me with a full-blown citation because I don't have lights and am supposedly "endangering traffic." To top it all off, since I didn't have my ID on me, he actually detained me to verify my identity. He told me the total fine is going to be a complete circus $233.
I’m curious if anyone else has dealt with this kind of nonsense from our local police and how things ended up for you.
