Traffic violation procedures in Criminal and Misdemeanor Law ·
Sorry if I'm double-posting here, I just have one quick question and I wasn't really sure where to drop it since so many threads seem to be locked lately. I just need to know this!!
If I committed a traffic violation—to be more specific, I was in a fender bender yesterday, May 31st—does the old law still apply to me? Or does the new one kick in starting today, June 1st? Some people are saying it doesn't even take effect until June 15th.
Thanks for any help guys!

Asking this one more time—does anyone actually know if there’s any weight to this? I just wrote my info down on some random notepad, but they didn't give me a ticket or any official paperwork to sign or anything. Does that even count, or is it all just meaningless?😕😕😕

And listen to me: forget all that "syncing up stories" crap. You're better off going to court when it comes down to it, admitting you messed up, and playing the "broke college student" card. Tell them you've never had a ticket in your life, talk about how things are rough at home, whatever... You could even mention you were in a massive rush for something urgent.
All that stuff might actually work, but forget about trying to claim you weren't passing. That's a losing game.😉

I think that's the smartest way to play it, but I'm still wondering what the actual law says. Like, does he have to give me an official citation and ask for my signature right then and there? Or can he just scribble it on a notepad, write up a report later, and mail it to me? I'm totally lost on how that part works.

Obviously you can't do that...
Honestly, there’s nothing you can do right now. You just gotta sit tight until the ticket actually shows up and then figure out your next move🙂

From what I know, though, to get a $333 for speeding, you usually have to be doing something way more reckless than this😁

Passing on a double yellow line and speeding, probably—but he’s got zero proof besides his own word.
Anyway, my brother was in the car with me, so maybe we could coordinate our stories? Like, I wasn't actually passing him, but rather that vehicle was just pulling out onto the main highway, since it's a newly widened intersection right where I was driving about 10 yards before.
And just to mention again, he didn't ask me to sign anything or give me any kind of citation paperwork. He just scribbled something down on some notepad, probably whatever he thought he saw (honestly, for all I know, he might've thought I ran someone over...).

Alright, let me break down what happened real quick. I could really use some advice if anyone knows how to handle this.
So, I was cruising down the highway on a stretch where I thought speed limits were higher. 44 miles I was definitely doing at least 90, so yeah, I was speeding—and to make matters worse, I passed someone on a solid line. Of course, two cops pulled me over. Honestly, I think only one of them even saw me because the other guy was busy arguing with some dude they’d just stopped.
Then, he pulls up to my window and
1. He didn't even take a photo or anything. He didn't say how fast I was going, just told me I committed a violation for $333, probably the passing thing... then he says I have to pay $100 right now or he'll just write me a ticket for $333.
But here’s the kicker: he takes my driver's license and registration to go write the citation, but he just scribbles stuff on some little notepad. He didn't give me any chance to see what I'm being charged with, and he didn't even ask me to sign anything! He just told me, "You'll get the ticket in the mail for $333!!!"
The issue is, I've only had my license for six months. I've got a totally clean record so far, but I'm a student, I don't have a job, and I am seriously broke, lol.
How can I fix this? Can I actually argue that I wasn't even passing people?
Thanks for the help, hope you guys can weigh in.
