I’m rocking a Dell Latitude running Windows 8.1... it never used to just shut itself off like this. I put it through the wringer pretty much constantly, so maybe it’s just overheating? It felt seriously hot to the touch a few times lately. I reached out to a buddy of mine to see what he thought, and his take was that I probably just need to blow out the dust and swap out the thermal paste to get it back in shape. But then a coworker of a friend—who also thinks he’s some kind of tech wizard—wasn't so sure, saying it might be something deeper than just heat. Please tell me my motherboard isn't totally fried.

So, here’s the deal: yesterday, my laptop just straight-up died right in the middle of a movie. Now, if I try to boot it up without the power adapter plugged in, absolutely nothing happens—it’s dead. If I actually plug the charger in, it manages to kick on, but then I start hearing this weird buzzing sound, and the screen hits me with 😛Automatic Repair starting. Then, boom, it shuts itself off again. After that, it goes through this phase where it won't even attempt to turn on for a while. Any idea what kind of nightmare I'm dealing with here?
