On top of all that, do I actually need to set up an LLC or some kind of small business entity just to handle importing stuff from overseas?
So, what’s the deal with importing stuff from Japan? Has anyone here actually gone through the process?
To be specific, I’m looking at bringing in this one particular beauty product—it’s pretty affordable, maybe around $2 or $3—that you just can't find anywhere in the States. I’m trying to wrap my head around all the hoops you have to jump through before you can even start importing.
Do I seriously need to sign on as an official general distributor?
And how on earth would I go about getting this product onto the shelves of big retailers like Target or Ulta?
I’m assuming there’d be a massive need for some serious marketing as well, right?
I actually lived in Japan for a while, so I grew up using this stuff! It’s such a staple there, and honestly, I really think it would take off in the US market too—that’s really what sparked this whole idea for me.
But man, the more I read through these forums, the more it feels like a total logistical nightmare.
Based on what you guys who have actual experience see, how much startup capital are we talking about to get a business like this off the ground?
Any guidance or tips at all would be amazing, especially if anyone here has already worked with Japanese suppliers.
