Betfair doesn't really have "limits" in the traditional sense because it isn't your standard sportsbook. Your ceiling is basically whatever other people are willing to offer you. Do a quick Google search on Betfair and you'll see it's more like a stock exchange for odds rather than a typical bookie where "The House" dictates the margins and sets the prices...

I'm pretty sure I could move stuff like this fast, but only if the price stays low. We're talking maybe 1.5x the Alibaba price—so roughly $75—once you factor in all the import duties and taxes...

Everything was handled online, and as for the money, I paid a deposit upfront and then cleared the rest once production wrapped up.
So, here’s how it went down: I had a contact at a warehouse in China who took possession of the goods and then coordinated the shipping over to Canada using a local freight forwarder. By the time everything landed, including all the shipping costs and taxes, my total came out to roughly $240 per square meter.
Since the product didn't require specific origin documentation or formal labeling, the whole process felt a lot more streamlined than usual.
I ended up paying via my personal bank account rather than running it through a business entity.
If you're looking at Alibaba, though, you really need to dig into how long a manufacturer has actually been active on the site; they often use their tenure as a sort of unofficial "guarantee" of reliability, which can be a bit misleading if you aren't careful.
Anyway, that's just my take on it based on what I went through.
Thanks for the reply! I’m looking for more specific info regarding tech gear for the US market. If anyone has leads, I'd really appreciate it...
Got a few questions for you though... is this warehouse an actual agent?? And you probably mean $240 per cubic foot, right??
Hey there!
Reading through the comments on this PDF, it feels like everyone is talking in circles without actually dropping any real numbers or specific examples regarding import costs.
I’ve been kicking around the idea of starting an LLC for a while now, and I think I’ve figured out my distribution strategy. My main headache is the import side of things—specifically how much it jacks up the unit price and whether importing this way is even worth the hassle.
For instance, I spotted this product on Alibaba.
So, here’s what I’m wondering:
1. How safe is it to buy directly through a site like this? And how can I beef up shipping security? Everyone keeps mentioning "agents"—what does that actually cost, and what am I really getting for my money? From what I gather, they have some kind of buyer protection similar to PayPal on eBay.
2. Regarding electronics, am I allowed to import gear this way? What specific standards does the merchandise need to meet to be legally sold here in the States (like needing UL certification instead of just CE)?
3. What are we looking at for shipping costs, and what other hidden fees should I prepare for? Give me a ballpark figure.
I’m looking at a first run of maybe 100 to 200 units at this price point. Roughly what would the final landed cost per unit be once everything—customs, freight, etc.—is factored in?
Any help would be huge, even though this is all still pretty theoretical right now... 🙂
Just to give you some context, I’ve got about $10,000 to work with, and sales in the US are basically a sure thing if I can nail down a decent wholesale price for this item.
Thanks in advance for any insight!
