First impressions in Psychology ·
gentlelynx26 said:nobody really gets me🙂

I know for a fact—looking at myself 😁—that whenever I meet someone new, they always think I'm charming. But after a little while, I guess I start worrying that people might take me too seriously or find me annoying, so I just start pulling back, avoiding them, and staying quiet. All the people I actually get along with today are the ones who kept teasing me and pushing through my avoidance. They just stuck by me. 😕

But I don't want this to be all about me. 😍 I'm curious what you guys think in general. Why would someone act like that? It sounds weird, but in those moments, I don't really understand why I do it. 🤣

It’s because you’re trying to protect that first good impression you made. You end up doing the exact opposite because you're terrified of "ruining" the version of yourself they liked.

I know people who, when meeting someone for the first time, act all shy and calculated just so they can manipulate the situation. They do it in the most subtle ways. They just feel like they need to be in control. And honestly, they don't have any bad intentions.
None of this is a huge deal until it scales up and starts messing with your ability to function normally... but you're the one who decides how much to let it happen.

I won't bother going into detail about how we aren't all best friends with everyone.
Just being yourself, whatever happens, usually comes with fewer headaches in the long run.

By the way, I didn't have any bacteria. But instead, I ended up with three polyps—two in my duodenum and one right in my stomach.

Honestly. I tried all sorts of alternative ways to deal with conflicts I just couldn't bring myself to speak up about—you know, that classic habit of just swallowing your pride and internalizing all the crap. But look, I knew exactly what was causing my ulcers from the very start, so that actually made things a little easier to handle.

I did😍. But honestly, drugs didn't do much for me. They just didn't work at all.

It doesn't really matter if he keeps recommending things or defending his advice, because everyone reacts differently. Honestly, I actually found fried food okay sometimes, and most dairy was fine too, but some of those soups he suggested gave me terrible heartburn. Again.
I can't speak on coffee since I've never touched the stuff, and alcohol hasn't been an issue for me, though I rarely drink anyway. It was just milk that helped the pain for the first ten minutes before making everything feel even worse. As for chocolate, that's news to me.
You’re going to have to abstain until that ulcer heals up. 😬
There's this cabbage juice you can get—it tastes absolutely disgusting, like it makes you want to lose it—but it seriously works.
If you were prescribed a course of Ulcer Guard or something similar, take it strictly as directed (the whole dose, don't just take it "whenever"). And please, make sure to take breaks between courses, otherwise you'll totally wreck your liver.
Just a little discipline and getting your diet and head space in order, and you'll get through this. 🙂

Thanks😢
I'm a girl😬
What exactly do you mean by having "experience" with psychology?
I've never dealt with sexual issues like this myself, and I haven't been in a relationship with anyone who has either.

John Price said:Why call it an addiction? I ended up on this forum because I don't really have anyone to talk to about this stuff, but I know "sexual addiction" is a real term used in psychology. Or is everything just socially acceptable nowadays?
That kind of behavior—the way your ex acted—is exactly what I’d expect from him too. If there's an opportunity to take it, he's going to grab it.

Is he actually addicted to sex, or is it more about other types of content?
Let's break this down a bit.😉

It’s definitely not you. You can’t just fight against those kinds of urges and deep-seated needs on your own.
Voyeurism and being hooked on porn are psychological issues, usually tied to serious sexual inhibitions or imbalances that show up in all sorts of ways. He isn't even comparing you to any other woman; for him, those are just two completely different categories.
