Try some warm chocolate milk... maybe it'll help.
I honestly don't get why people jump in here offering such mindless advice—it's obvious they aren't actually suffering from insomnia. Sure, the "warm milk trick" might work for someone who struggles once in a blue moon, but that’s not why people come to this forum. We're here because we've tried everything and realized none of those old wives' tales actually do anything!
Because of my sleep issues, I finally hit a breaking point and went to see a psychiatrist. I used to be a heavy sleeper, never had issues before, but it turns out I'm dealing with anxious depression (hopefully just an episode). The thing is, all sleep meds eventually become addictive, and after a while, the dose just stops working. My doctor suggested starting antidepressants and using hypnotics on an as-needed basis. Currently, I'm on a low dose of Lexapro; initially, I was taking Valium (which is a potent hypnotic), but Sanofi didn't really do much for me. Things have stabilized enough now that I only have the occasional bad night (waking up mid-sleep), and even a quarter of a Sanofi pill is enough to get me under.
As for natural methods? I tried homeopathy, but it was a total bust...
Bottom line: I recommend everyone treats insomnia as a symptom of something deeper and works on that instead. Meds are just temporary Band-Aids. Start tracking when and why the insomnia kicks in—what triggers it, what situations precede it—and keep a log. You might actually start seeing a pattern... who knows, it might lead you to the root cause!
I truly empathize with anyone facing this, because it's a level of misery I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. Hang in there, everyone!👍
