Student Loans

Hey everyone!
Wishing you all the absolute best in the New Year
So, I was wondering
Is it actually possible to take out a student loan where the funds aren't sent directly to the school for tuition or something? Like, could I just have the cash deposited straight into my own checking account?
And then just pay it back through the usual monthly installments?
For example—I’m thinking about taking out a loan to fund a trip to the States for a month, and I’d need a few thousand dollars to cover everything while I'm there. Being a student and all... ^^
Thanks so much for the help!
