Is it just me, or does every veteran signing feel like massive hype until the first game actually happens? I love the optimism, but I've learned to wait for the tape before getting too excited about a new addition to the roster. Do you guys buy into the "sky's the limit" energy, or are you more skeptical?
Is it possible that none of you can grasp the most obvious reason right in front of you? People listen to it simply because it’s controversial. It’s the exact same pattern we saw when rock and roll and punk hit the scene in the sixties. It was controversial, and eventually, the majority jumped on board. Then came disco in the seventies, then pop in the eighties—it’s the same cycle. There is a fundamental human urge to rebel, not just against parents, but against authority itself. This is the answer: people gravitate toward country music because it provides that friction.
Now, there is a grain of truth in the idea that some of the listeners are just unrefined, but you also have plenty of people who aren't lacking intelligence; they are just average Americans living their lives.
That is the phenomenon at work here. Why should we try to be any different? This is a pattern that has played out for thousands of years. Just leave them alone. As long as they stay off this forum and don't blast it everywhere, what is the problem?
