Amanda Miller69 said:Hey everyone,
just wanted to drop in with some amazing news—my mom's cancer is actually operable! She’s still in surgery right now, but I just got off the phone with her anesthesiologist. She’ll have to use a colostomy bag, but honestly, that is such a small price to pay to save her life. To be totally real with you, Dr. Majerović told me yesterday that this was terminal and we were looking at maybe three more years. But hey, three more years is still a huge win. He also mentioned a patient who had a much tougher case than my mom and she's completely cured now. I’m heading back to see him tomorrow to get the full rundown on the procedure and what the next steps look like. Sending so much love to all of you—I am just so incredibly happy right now.🙂

That is awesome news! 👍
Amanda Miller69 said:I asked, but unfortunately, it's a no go.🙄Optimism is really all I have left right now.🙂

I'm so sorry,🤷 I really thought I could be helpful here.
Amanda Miller69 said:I'm going to double-check everything at the clinic. I was at the Mayo Clinic today with my mom seeing Prof. Majerović and Dr. Kekez, who will be performing the surgery. They showed us this young woman on the ward with the exact same condition as my mom—she already had her surgery and looks absolutely fantastic. He walked us through all the options, and when I asked about the cases where surgery isn't an option, he mentioned there was only one woman, and even then, her CT scans were borderline (my mom's scans look totally fine). He did warn us that the surgery is intense; out of eight people, two passed away from complications (God forbid!), and the procedure lasts about 10-15 hours because they have to remove the peritoneum (which is about 5 square meters, can you believe that?) along with parts of the organs inside it. Honestly, hearing all that actually calmed me down, and I have a gut feeling everything is going to be just fine. I just need to get through that big day. Keep your fingers crossed for us!👍

Amanda Miller69, definitely go ask those questions; I would really appreciate the help. Love that optimism of yours!👍

I felt like I caught a glimpse of some secret connection. 😉
Angela Wright said:I’m going to be away from the forum for about five days (heading down to Miami for the holidays), so I wanted to pop in and wish all my wonderful friends a happy and blessed Easter. I hope the hope this holiday brings gives you the strength to push through whatever struggles you're facing right now.
Kisses to everyone!

Angela, you're basically a Miami local!😲
Amanda Miller69 :
Thanks so much! If you’re a donor and have an insurance card, please head over to 3 Petrov Avenue. Just let them know at the counter that the donation is for Zdenka Košćec's surgery, which has already been coordinated with the Mayo Clinic.
If you don't have an insurance card, you'll need to go to the Mayo Clinic around 7:30 AM and check in with Dr. Plenković in the transfusion department. She’ll draw your blood and confirm your blood type right then and there. Just mention it's for my mom's operation (the one I mentioned earlier). Once you have the confirmation, take it over to Petrov to donate. The surgery is scheduled for a week from today.
I can't thank you enough!

Amanda Miller69, I'm B negative, so if there's any way to have blood sent over from Miami, I would love to help out.
"Taking the Netscape Navigator tour"
Does that mean it's a five?
Which version of Explorer are you running? Like, Explorer 1, 7... please tell me it isn't older than 6!

Hey, fighter girl, I honestly have no clue! I checked under properties, but it doesn't say which Explorer I'm using.
I’m telling you from the bottom of my heart, get out of Miami ASAP!
I mean it! Our biggest mistake was relying on that local hospital!
Unless you happen to run into one of those rare exceptions who actually know what they're doing—and trust me, they're just side characters there!
Take care,

Thanks for the heads-up. I really hope our doctor happens to be one of those good ones.
The day we found out the unit was closed indefinitely, things got pretty frantic. We were honestly thinking about pulling some strings and calling up people in Washington, D.C., but we ultimately decided to stick it out in Miami since we've had such great experiences here in the past. It really comes down to a trade-off, doesn't it? Is it worth sacrificing quality of life just to chase better medical options?
Hey everyone,
Ivanicapec, I haven't been able to post anything on the association forum because my home computer is being a total nightmare—it only decides to glitch out right when I actually need to get stuff done! Work is just as bad; every time I try to load the page, all I see is a mess of blue lines. I'm guessing it's just because the hardware is ancient? It’s honestly such a headache!
Not much else going on here. My father-in-law seems fine on the surface, though I can definitely sense he's feeling pretty anxious.
Angela Wright said:Hey Kate Ramos40, I have to be honest—neither me nor the fighter had ever heard of this specific brain tumor being classified as a sarcoma😕.
We did some digging online and found out that the treatment approach for this type is pretty much the same as it is for glioblastoma: surgery if they can get it all (which was done here), radiation, and chemo. For glioblastoma, they typically use Temozolomide.
http://path.upmc.edu/cases/case367/dx.html
I checked here and found tons of clinical trials currently running in the US, like immunotherapy. On this forum, we actually have dina9 dealing with ovarian cancer and dandelion seed, whose husband is fighting melanoma; both went the immunotherapy route and the results have been awesome so far. You might want to Google it—there could be similar trials happening in Europe too.
As for delaying the radiation, I really don't think that's a good move. Since the surgery was so recent, my take is that you should wait just long enough for the wound to heal and then jump straight into radiation. We need to wipe out those leftover cells ASAP to slow down any regrowth or cell division.

Anyway, I'm actually messaging the fighter at the same time; she mentioned she’d look into this specific cancer on Reddit to see what the standard protocol looks like. We'll let you know as soon as we find anything out.
Hang in there!

p.s. If it isn't too much trouble, could you please start a thread about gliosarcoma on the charity association forum? Since this is such a rare type of brain tumor, maybe someone there will have some solid answers or personal experience to share.

Angela Wright, first off, thank you so much for all the hard work and for looking out for us! It means a lot!
Regarding getting radiation in Miami, we checked and there's no way that department will be up and running in three weeks. That is totally unacceptable! We also heard that even in Washington, D.C., we wouldn't get seen anytime soon, and apparently, the wait for Temozolomide is just as bad.
Is it true that Temozolomide is given alongside radiation, or can the radiation start first?

Sorry if I'm being repetitive or asking things that have already been covered; I honestly don't know much about any of this.

I'll try to post the question on the charity forum this weekend. Seriously, kudos to you for being so proactive!
I’ve been following this group for about a month now, ever since we got hit by this whole brain tumor situation.
I’ll try to lay out exactly how everything has played out so far. It’s my father-in-law; he’s 64.
About a month and a half ago, a CT scan picked up a brain tumor. At first, they thought it might be a metastasis, so they ran a chest X-ray immediately, and those results came back clear. The doctor decided surgery was the move, so he went under the knife on February 7th. The surgery itself was a success, and he’s actually recovering really well. We had another CT done seven days later, and the results looked good. However, we still didn't have a definitive diagnosis because we were stuck waiting on the pathology report... and just waiting... Finally, after a full month, we got the news. It’s glioblastoma multiforme, Grade IV. Now we’re all just lost, scouring the internet and realizing just how nasty this thing is. My father-in-law is doing fine right now without any treatment yet. Last Monday, March 10th, he finally saw an oncologist with all his paperwork, and they recommended starting radiation in about a month?!
Is waiting two months—or potentially longer—too long? What’s the typical wait time like in Washington, D.C.? Where should we even start?
Just to clarify, we're based out of Miami.
