The "untouchable" player problem in Hobbies & Leisure ·
It feels like every big club eventually hits a wall where they have too many superstars to actually balance a roster. Once you decide a certain person is officially off-limits, does it just kill the chemistry for everyone else?
Schizophrenia - General Discussion in Psychology & Therapy ·
I decided I had to write this down because just typing it out is helping me process some of this madness. My sister has been in the hospital since yesterday, and honestly, it’s horrific. She was diagnosed with schizophrenia about two years ago, but even then, we weren't entirely sure if that was actually what was going on.
She hit the scene really young—just dove headfirst into a lifestyle of drugs and alcohol, and lived like that for nearly fifteen years. Then, about five years back, she started withdrawing into the house and began having hallucinations. We all just assumed it was the substances, so we did what we could to help her get clean, mostly just supporting her through it and giving her some Xanax when things got bad. She refused to see a psychiatrist because she was convinced they were all against her—that they were spying on her and watching her every move. For a while, things seemed to stabilize, but then about two years ago, after combining alcohol with everything else, her whole system just collapsed. That was her first time being hospitalized. The doctor let her come home almost immediately, just prescribing her Haldol and a few other meds. That was the first time she finally agreed to psychotherapy, seeing a local therapist once a week. It went okay for a bit. But then came another relapse, more med changes, and finally the official schizophrenia diagnosis. She was on Zyprexa and Seroquel, and things seemed fine. Actually, the prescribing doctor even dropped hints that it might not be schizophrenia at all. But then, this summer, after a few years of stability, she gets a job, stops her treatment because she says she "doesn't have time," and tosses the pills aside, claiming they just slow her down. Basically, she's drinking again, and we suspect she's back on speed, too. Two days ago, she had a total meltdown—the worst state she's ever been in. Hallucinations, aggression, zero sleep... she lost her job, and eventually, it ended with her in the hospital. The hardest part of all this is that she's been in this state for two days now. Today, she's in the hospital, restrained, screaming, hallucinating... I honestly thought they would be helping her there, but she's actually worse. And the doctor? He just says this will be her life forever if she doesn't stick to the meds. She has zero willpower left, even though we are all right here by her side.
How am I supposed to help her? Will she ever be able to have children? Is there any hope for recovery? It's just a thousand questions without a single answer, and right now, she's just sitting there alone in some hospital basement, restrained, and it feels like nobody is actually helping her....
