The heart acts as a mother to the daughter, the brain. According to ancient Chinese philosophy, our internal organs share deep, familial connections with one another.

Period talk: Questions and advice in Women's Health ·
graniteheron8 said:My periods used to be incredibly painful. It was almost a monthly routine of ending up in the ER. My gynecologist insisted everything looked perfectly normal, though. He just told me that’s how it is and suggested I take some Voltaren a few days before my cycle starts, claiming things would change once I had children. I didn't follow that advice, because I can't stand being dependent on pills. So, I took matters into my own hands. I started drinking a herbal tea blend specifically for menstrual cramps—I get it from an old lady at a local farmers market—and I became very strict about my diet. A week before my period, I cut out dairy and sweets entirely and ramped up my fruit and vegetable intake (there is more info on this over at the Mayo Clinic website). Ginger tea helps quite a bit too. The results weren't instant, but after a couple of months, I felt a massive difference. The pain is about five times lower now, and I often go through my whole cycle without needing any medication at all, which used to be unthinkable for me.

..I have had a very similar experience. Diet plus exercise throughout the month, or at least for ten days leading up to it, makes a huge difference. Also, a Pilates ball was a lifesaver for me. Since I prefer to avoid medication (my periods could occasionally be so excruciatingly painful that I nearly fainted!), finding that ball was the perfect therapy. When I feel the cramps coming on, I sit upright on it and use intuitive movements—just a gentle rocking motion—to find a rhythm where my pelvis essentially "massages itself." As Diana mentioned, you really have to be consistent with it. Now, my pain is minimal; I don't touch painkillers as long as I stick to these habits. Meditation focused on that specific area of the body also works wonders. But honestly, when the pain gets really intense, Ketorolac was my only real option.

It is so nice to see everyone here being so kind and praising how well they are doing on certain medications. My mother has AGAIN been prescribed some new drug—Prozac, imagine that—the first thing that comes to my mind is some American music video. I don't know. I live with her (thank God we haven't shared the same space for three years now) and given her bipolar disorder diagnosis, UNFORTUNATELY, it seems I know more about it than she does. THAT IS HIGHLY IRRESPONSIBLE. I spent my entire youth tearing myself apart just trying to help her stay healthy and stable, when it really should have been the other way around!! Now, I have to do a massive amount of work on myself to purge her behavioral patterns from my system. Some people have even told me it's hereditary, and today a friend actually suggested I take medication whenever I feel overwhelmed... However, I am deeply convinced that these kinds of diagnoses are useless. They only serve to strip a person of their ability to be responsible for themselves, their Consciousness, and their own health. It is far too easy to whine about how hard life is and torment the people around you by using a diagnosis as an excuse (as if to say, "Oh, I'm just a little depressed right now, so I'll just sleep all day and do nothing—and what about my children? Well, they're adults, they can manage...") 🙂 🙂 >>>>>>

What I mean to say is, I love my mother, but I am certain these mental disorders develop as a consequence of long-term neglect of one's own sound mind, inner guidance, and the power we possess to take care of ourselves!!! (This applies primarily to adults who have once realized their traumas! Besides, we were ALL exposed to various traumas during childhood and throughout our lives; that is no longer a sufficient excuse!) They say there is a thin line between genius and madness; when I found myself in those 'states,' I would take cold showers, take baths, drink teas, apply compresses, jump around the house, shake myself out, pray to God, chant... all just to avoid tormenting the people around me and shifting the responsibility for my fears and mental traps onto my loved ones or, heaven forbid, doctors!!! Only when I would catch a grain of sanity and recognize it within my Consciousness as such, would I reach out to someone to talk about it..!!!!
