But honestly, first things first... you have to deal with the biggest hurdle, which is getting them to actually realize they're ill. Once they get that, managing the condition gets a hell of a lot easier.
Man, tell me about it... I've been grinding away at that exact hurdle for five years now... still haven't been able to get them to see that they're sick.
What do you even do when someone refuses to accept their diagnosis, especially after a doctor has officially diagnosed them with F20? I’m trying to figure out how to support someone who is 24, has already been hospitalized five times, and has even attempted suicide. They're currently in their first year of college and are looking at freezing their credits again for another year, all while completely denying that they have schizophrenia. How am I supposed to help someone who won't acknowledge what's actually happening?
I’m dealing with a really difficult situation right now. Someone very close to me has been struggling with an F25 diagnosis, which points toward schizophrenia. We’ve been navigating this for five years now, and honestly, we haven't seen much progress. They’ve had to be hospitalized five different times and have even attempted suicide. It’s been a cycle of trying various medications just to keep them somewhat stable. They are 24 years old and currently in college. I’m looking for any advice on how to handle this. How can a family help pull someone out of a state like this?🤷 Any guidance at all would be so appreciated. Thanks for listening.
