Schizophrenia - General Discussion in Psychology & Therapy ·
Thomas Rodriguez14 said:Right, but you clearly didn't get it—he isn't taking his pills, and apparently, he sees some imaginary figure—his description sounded like some kind of demon😲 and he told my friend that while we were both at the grocery store, then he just bolts home. I'm seriously worried he might do something to her if I'm stuck in the aisle alone

Look, I'm telling you, if he keeps making threats, you need to call the police. They'll pick him up for questioning and most likely take him straight to a hospital where they can get him on the right meds so he stops acting crazy. And believe me, there is no harm in calling for help if things take a turn for the worse.

Thomas Rodriguez14 said:hmmm, but the guy is definitely losing his grip—I even heard from his own relatives (they let him stay with them, and they have three little kids!) that he isn't even taking his meds. Every time he passes me, I get the chills... the dude just talks to himself constantly.😲

Look, we dealt with a guy like this once, and I don't mean "dealing" as in a minor inconvenience—I mean we had serious problems. This individual would stalk me and several of my friends all over town, constantly threatening us, provoking us, attacking us, and even getting physical. Every single time, we’d just call the cops, and they’d pick him up for questioning... until the day he actually attacked someone with an axe. After that, every time he gets too close, we call 911. They haul him off to the psych ward, but then a week later, he’s out on the street and the whole cycle starts all over again. He can't be thrown in jail because he's deemed mentally ill, yet the hospital staff keeps discharging him. About six months ago, the police finally put their foot down and hauled him in, so he’s staying away for now. For now. The system is fundamentally broken. That said, cases like this are incredibly rare; most schizophrenic !!!!! are completely non-violent. The real danger arises when they stop taking their medication and start perceiving someone as a threat. At that point, they might lash out at whatever object or person they feel is endangering them. If they were actually adhering to their medication regimen, everything would be under control. If anyone ever threatens you, do not hesitate: report them to the police immediately. They will take him into custody and transport him to a facility where he'll be medicated and stabilized for at least a little while. That is truly the only move you have. And honestly? Carry some pepper spray for self-defense.

I’m looking for some insight from anyone who has actually walked this path... A family member of mine went through a psychotic episode about five months ago. After a three-week stay at the hospital, he was discharged with a diagnosis of first-episode psychosis. For a while, his recovery seemed incredibly solid. But over the last ten days, things have taken a bizarre turn. He’s become extremely hyperactive and strangely indifferent toward his future. Then, out of nowhere, he flips into deep depression or flashes into anger for absolutely no reason. Is it possible the illness is resurfacing in a different guise, or am I looking at some kind of crisis? Honestly, I’m at a total loss—I don't even know how to react anymore. To make matters worse, he isn't sleeping at all during the night. My nerves are completely fried, and I’m reaching my breaking point. I feel like I'm on the verge of just giving up entirely. I can't get him to open up to me or let me help, but the thought of sending him back to the hospital is terrifying because the trauma from his last stay was so intense.

You don't need to go into a full-blown panic, but you can never be too careful. If he perceives her as a threat, there's a real possibility he could lash out against her...
