Schizophrenia - General Discussion in Psychology & Therapy ·

1. emotional trauma
2. anxiety
3. isolation

I feel emotionally numb and physically disconnected. When I lie down at night, it isn't that I can't sleep; it's just that I don't feel any sense of exhaustion regardless of what I've done. In the morning, I honestly can't tell if I even slept. There is a constant buzzing in my head, and I’ve dealt with impotence for the last six months since these issues began. My mind is racing with intrusive, irrational thoughts, yet all I do is sit perfectly still. I have zero interest in anything. I feel like a stranger to myself. When I speak, it sounds like someone else is talking. My thought processes feel broken. Even the events that led me here feel surreal, like they didn't actually happen to me. Does anyone think these could be symptoms of schizophrenia?

It doesn't always have to be the worst-case scenario. You need to go see a professional—talk to a doctor or a psychiatrist. The sooner you start treatment, the less likely things are to spiral out of control.

I'm just trying to get by. Šiza is part of who I am now, and I've made my peace with it. Honestly, there are plenty of days when I wish it wasn't part of the deal... but that's just how I roll, day in and day out.

Fortunately, medicine has come a long way, and if you actually cooperate with your doctors, finding the right treatment plan is doable. A good chunk of the emotional instability needs to be tackled through psychotherapy—which, let’s face it, is expensive, but it's worth every penny. I used to crash every two years, but I’ve been doing solid for six and a half now. I haven't dealt with any negative symptoms because I truly believe that any illness, even schizophrenia, can be managed if you put in the work.

Look, I know firsthand that you can live a perfectly normal life with schizophrenia... I’ve been running a blog for years on the subject—just search "Schizophrenia is just a crisis" on Google if you want to see how someone actually navigates this thing from the inside.
