Schizophrenia - General Discussion in Psychology & Therapy ·

Given how little actual information was shared, we would practically need psychic powers to figure out what’s going on here.
The symptoms you're describing could just as easily be caused by a bad case of the flu.
Maybe try arranging a coffee meeting with him... I'm sure he'd be back to his old self in no time.😁

I am not entirely convinced that the flu causes someone to isolate themselves completely and abandon all personal ambition. It seems more likely that he is struggling with something deeper. He has severed almost all connections, even though he didn't have many to begin with—it's quite an extreme reaction for just a fever. 🙂 His therapist mentioned they weren't certain, but noted it could potentially lead to schizophrenia; however, since the medication hasn't provided any relief, he has concluded that might not be the case either.🤷

So, I have a friend who has essentially given up on everything. He’s dropped out of college several times, he isn't working, and he barely leaves his house. It’s becoming quite difficult to even stay in touch with him. He tells me that he feels like everyone is constantly staring at him—as if people are perpetually zooming in on him—and that this intense scrutiny makes him incredibly uncomfortable. It drains all his energy, making it nearly impossible for him to function in public. He tends to withdraw because he seems genuinely afraid of others; sometimes it feels like he only speaks just to avoid the silence. This has been going on for a long time now. Could this be a symptom of schizophrenia or something else? I feel like he really needs to see a private psychiatrist...
