Schizophrenia - General Discussion in Psychology & Therapy ·
Harold Anderson3 said:Has anyone else dealt with this pattern? For me, it’s a regular occurrence following a psychotic episode. It always seems to happen eventually, sooner or later. Right before a break, I actually feel pretty incredible—like I'm on top of the world and can conquer anything—but once the psychosis hits, I lose touch with reality and my own emotions entirely. Then, once things finally settle down, I crash straight into a deep depression. It actually got so bad once that I ended up being hospitalized.
I just feel empty, caught up in this heavy nostalgia, and I find myself blaming myself for things that happened in the past. It leaves me with absolutely zero willpower or motivation to try and fix my life.
Does anyone here have any experience with this cycle?
@Angela Stewart6, since you're relatively new to navigating these mental health struggles, I really hope my post doesn't weigh too heavily on you or bring your mood down. 😉

It’s pretty typical, honestly. I remember having an overwhelming surge of confidence and mood right before my episodes. It’s such a bizarre paradox—that massive high followed by the psychosis and then this crushing depression.

Has anyone here dealt with the fallout of suddenly stopping antipsychotics? I’m currently taking them alongside an antidepressant, and I’ve been thinking about experimenting with my dosage—mostly because things have felt pretty dark lately, and the suicidal ideation is becoming hard to ignore.

Does anyone here have any insight into this medication? Is it technically classified as an anxiolytic, or something else entirely? I’ve been taking it as needed to help me settle down, but honestly—and I mean this quite strictly—anything over 25 mg before bed just doesn't work for me. It messes with my balance so badly that I end up stumbling or falling more often than I'd care to admit.

Also, does anyone know of a different medication that might help ease this constant sense of restlessness—akathisia? It feels like I'm perpetually driven by this need to be doing *something*, and even when I am actually occupied, that underlying agitation just refuses to budge.

I did mention all of this to my doctor, but instead of addressing the specific issue, he just bumped up my dosage of Truxal—which, as I already mentioned, is the last thing I need right now.

Is it actually worth pairing medication with psychotherapy? I’ve heard some talk suggesting that therapy doesn't really do much once you're north of 25.

I’ve been on Celexa for about a month and a half now, and honestly, I’m not really feeling any noticeable benefits yet—the depression feels just as heavy as it did before I started. How much longer does it typically take before you actually start seeing some real changes?
Is it possible that it could take three or even four months to really kick in?

I finally managed to get my psychiatrist to prescribe it—had to fight tooth and nail because Zyprexa, Everbio, Risperdal, and Seroquel made me pack on over 90 pounds.
So far, I haven't noticed any side effects other than some mild drowsiness (which I don't even really feel), though apparently, people with heart conditions should stay away from it.
It doesn't cause weight gain at all; in fact, it actually kills my appetite so much that I’ve already dropped 11 pounds in just seven days. I'm still taking Zeldox 120 mg on the side.

Here is what my experience with Abilify has been like:🙏that restless, jittery feeling where I just can't sit still, dry mouth (though not all the time), nasal congestion, dizziness, and a sort of tingling sensation throughout my body whenever I stand up.
