PC build for around $600? in Desktops ·
Hey everyone, here's the deal: my kid (he's in high school) just had his laptop kick the bucket while he was gaming on it—stuff like Madden NFL 16, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Halo, Forza Motorsport, you know the drill—so now he needs a proper setup. Since we're looking at a budget of roughly $500, I highly doubt I'll find a decent laptop, so I figured a desktop might be the smarter move. I've been poking around some pre-built configurations online, but honestly, I'm totally lost because I haven't touched this kind of stuff in forever. He does a bit of messing around in Photoshop too, if that matters. I realize I'm not going to get some sci-fi supercomputer for this price, but it would be awesome if there's some room to upgrade later on when newer games start demanding more juice.

Here’s some of the stuff I've been eyeing:

If any of you geniuses feel like putting together something better for that kind of cash, I'll give you a massive high-five.

I don't need any peripherals, I've already got all that gear lying around the house.

Yeah, that’s pretty much where my head was at too. I think I'm gonna give it a shot.

Hey there,
So, here’s the deal: I need to swap out the keyboard on my HP ProBook 4540. I was thinking about just grabbing a replacement off eBay and DIY-ing the whole thing. Local shops around here are quoting me $83 at the very least, which is honestly a joke. I found these listings online where you can get the bare keyboard without the frame for like $16, or the full assembly with the frame for about $50. My plan was to snag the cheap one, pry the old frame off, and transplant it onto the new board. I was even thinking about peeling the letters off the old keys and sticking them onto the new ones to keep it looking familiar.
Is that actually doable, or am I just asking for a headache? Any other weird little things I should watch out for before I dive in? Thanks.
Best 24" monitor for graphics? in Computer Peripherals ·
Alright, so like the title says, I’m on the hunt for a solid monitor specifically for photo editing and layout work. What I really need is color accuracy that won't lie to me, and I'm aiming for a 1920x1200 resolution (that 16:10 aspect ratio is key), kind of looking for something similar to this: http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/hr/hr...1-4133493.html.
It's probably going to be an IPS panel, so if anyone out there has actually used one of these or knows a good spot to pick one up without getting ripped off, I'd seriously appreciate the tip.
