So, I’m having this weird issue with my Bank of America debit card—the one linked to my checking account. It doesn't even have contactless, which is already a bit old school. I’ve had the account open for about a year now. A little money trickles in every now and then, and I think I used the card maybe twice at some random shop just to test it out or whatever.
The other day, I tried to actually use the balance on it—the card doesn't expire until 2023—but it kept getting declined everywhere. At DM, at an ATM, even at an ExxonMobil station. So, I head down to the branch, and the teller looks at me and says the chip is "worn down" from too much use. She actually suggested I try rubbing the chip against my shirt before sliding it into the reader to clean it off. Like, seriously? I told her, "Lady, I've used this thing exactly two times since I got it. How is that 'too much use'?"
Then she goes, "Well, we can always order you a new one." I was just like, thanks but no thanks. This one works just fine for me.
