so I'm basically locked out of that account until then, right...

Hey guys, just one more thing... any idea how much longer I'll be waiting on that card to actually show up

darkmaker94 said:Nope. Just tell your wife you don't want them.

thanks... figured that was all I needed to know...

darkmaker94 said:Monthly statements only show up if you actually ask for them, but they’ll charge you for it (I think it's $1.75 a month), and honestly, you can just check everything on your Chase mobile app anyway, so there's really no point. Just make sure to tell your wife she doesn't need the paper statements (unless she's really into that).

Nah, but am I still gonna get those annual tax forms and all that junk mailed to the house... I'm definitely tossing the monthly ones...

darkmaker94 said:You should probably double-check exactly what’s included and what the reimbursement looks like just to be 100% sure. 😉

thanks for breaking it all down for me... but let me know if you know whether they'll send over statements showing when every transaction went through... like how much was deposited versus how much was withdrawn

You’d need to keep it for at least 6 months. You’d pull in roughly $67 on a $1667 balance. Since it’s an active savings account, you can toss in extra cash whenever you want.

Nah, forget it... I'll just grab that student banking package and call it a day...

darkmaker94 said:Just open it if you want. Otherwise, all you get with that package is a checking account with a debit card for shopping and ATMs, plus online banking. That whole setup is $15 a year or $1.25 a month.
You can ask for the extra stuff, but you don't have to.

I'm not sure what the fees look like at JPMorgan Chase for that Cool account. Might even be less. Go check it out.

but say I leave that cash sitting there for 3 months... just wondering $1667 if I'll actually see any interest on it...

Just open one of those student accounts I linked above and you're all set.

Does this student package actually have anything to do with what you were rambling about in that other thread regarding savings...

So, just let me know if I’m actually getting the card and PIN (for my old man) and whether I’ll be able to pull cash directly at the bank branch or if I'm stuck just using an ATM...

darkmaker94 said:Frank, if you're 16 or older, JPMorgan Chase has a youth package. You get a checking account where anyone can deposit cash, plus a Maestro card for ATM withdrawals, shopping, and whatever else. It comes with a PIN.
The package includes online banking too. It’ll cost you $15 a year or $1.25 a month. All the details are at this link.
Oh, and you'll need your parents to sign off on it.

Otherwise, Bank of America offers a cool youth account. Your parents set it up, and anyone can send you money. It comes with a Maestro card and is designed for people under 18.

Etc. Basically, pretty much every bank has something similar. Just Google it. 😉

darkmaker94 thanks for the breakdown, but tell me... does this JPMorgan Chase package expire when you hit 18, or can you keep it...

hollowmaker20 said:Basically, yeah, your parents should have no trouble getting you both the card and the PIN, whether it's for a standard checking account or a basic savings one.

that’s all I really needed to know... thanks

shadowpilot8 said:Go ahead and read this entire thread from the top; you'll find the answers there. For anything specific, you'll still need to check with Bank of America

I'm just wondering if I'll actually get the card and the PIN... doesn't really matter whose name is on it since it's me using it, I just need to know if it's coming my way
Opening a minor's checking and savings account in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
But look, I just really want to know if I’m actually getting the card itself... you know, so I can actually go out and withdraw cash... because my folks are setting this up for me and they told me I'd be able to pull money whenever I feel like it... so I guess I'm just wondering if the card and the PIN are coming, and then I'll be good to go at any ATM, right...

hollowmaker20 said:Look, speaking purely from my own experience here, I know for a fact that having a basic checking account at the Federal Reserve doesn't cost you a dime, though if I remember correctly, there might be a fee for a standard current account $3.00 based on the specific month you actually use it—you know, like, if there’s actual activity or transactions happening in the account.
Otherwise, it honestly ends up costing absolutely nothing.

So, basically, as a minor with this card I'll be getting... I can hit up ATMs, pay for stuff at stores and all that... but will my folks get statements sent to the house... showing how much went in and how much was spent and things like that...
Opening a minor's checking and savings account in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
so... you're basically telling me I should just go ahead and open a checking account then... thanks...

Nah... what I'm actually wondering is... if I open up a checking account...... and someone transfers $1667 to me...... is the bank gonna take a cut of those funds.... and what's the annual fee for an account like that

So I'm looking at opening a checking account, but I'm wondering what the monthly maintenance fees look like... how much is Bank of America gonna shave off every time someone actually sends me some cash
Opening a minor's checking and savings account in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
Hey guys, I was hoping someone could help me out with a few things... I'm looking to open an account over at Bank of America, but I'm stuck on whether a checking or savings account makes more sense. I just need a spot where people can toss some cash my way every now and then... you know, like when my relatives send me money from New York... so I'm wondering if they want to deposit $1667, how much is the bank gonna hit me with in fees... plus what are the monthly maintenance costs like... I'm still a minor, but that shouldn't be an issue since my parents will set everything up for me... I just need to know which option lets me hit the ATM whenever I need to grab some cash... so yeah, any advice would be appreciated
