After digging into some trivia about that Best Supporting Actress winner earlier today, I decided to check out what she had to say about her lead actress. She basically said: "It’s totally fine if kids want to play superhero or Barbie—honestly, whatever works—but my three-year-old? She’s all about playing with action figures of actual powerhouses, like Vice President Kamala Harris, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, or Senator Elizabeth Warren."
And then people have the nerve to call Will Smith crazy🙂
The Oscars have always been a total joke—honestly, a bit of a rigged game. It’s just impossible that not a single Western has snagged Best Picture in sixty years straight. And besides, even if you look at something like Dances with Wolves (or maybe Unforgiven)—is that even a Western? Or just some other genre masquerading as one? Two guys in love definitely aren't
driftingranger9 said:I honestly wonder if anyone even watches the Oscars anymore. Given that the films released this year have been absolute garbage, is it possible they're just rigging things to make the ceremony feel slightly less irrelevant?
Honestly, I find it pretty cool that Ariana DeBose is the first Black lesbian to snag an Oscar. Just a cool bit of history, right? ☕
I'm also trying to wrap my head around all these guys—trying to figure out what the deal is with Tin Licon and why people won't stop writing about him.
Look, most of us have heard stories like this a million times—you run into characters like this in real life, or you hear about even wilder, more "eccentric" types... right? So why does this one guy deserve pages and pages of coverage? I mean, sure, give him a mention or a quick joke, but for the mice 🙄 Just look at this one example—I was writing to someone once about hanging out with Covicon. He lived right near us, basically from the outskirts of Brooklyn, and within a few hours of meeting him, he tells me straight up that he was the one who brought heroin into New York over 40 years ago. When he asks people about it, everyone knows his name, but since nobody had actually seen him in 20 years—and because he lives out in those remote areas—he was basically a legend, like Colonel Kurtz.

For real. It's right there in the standard schedule—my kid gets it orally around the 4-5 week mark because these stomach viruses are brutal for infants (mine ended up in the hospital with Norovirus) and the elderly too. I know it costs a few extra bucks out of pocket here in the States 🙄
bluebear42 said:Speaking of kids, I had a bit of a realization with my little one recently: apparently, children's medicine hasn't improved one bit since I was a kid. It’s still just as revolting. I mean, look at us. We’re launching rockets into space, hitting targets with hyper-velocity projectiles, we have Facebook, and we can develop vaccines for the entire planet overnight. Yet, somehow, the one constant in this universe is that certain teams will always find a way to miss first place, and we still haven't figured out how to make a syrup that doesn't make a toddler gag the second you bring a spoon near their face...
What do you mean "which ones"? There are some with fruit flavors that might actually pass, but yeah, there are plenty of nasty ones out there. But honestly, in my experience, those syrups are mostly a scam and pretty much useless.
By the way, I'm currently in the middle of a total disaster zone: first, my youngest hurt her leg at daycare—stayed home for a week—then she goes back to school and two days later brings home some stomach bug or Norovirus or whatever. For those without kids, let me describe how this always starts... it's always in the middle of the night. You go to bed feeling fine, then suddenly, in the dead of night, you hear that sound of someone splashing/vomiting. And then it happens again and again over the next few hours. And for my part, it triggers a chain reaction where everyone else in the house gets sick within 48 hours. Unlike the kids, adults—like me and my wife—just end up half-dead a day after it hits. But wait, there's more—just as the youngest started puking, the older one picked up COVID at school. That's the second round of COVID in two months. So while the first one was still fighting it off with a fever hitting 102—which barely even counts as a fever if you ask me—now the younger one has it too. Her routine fevers usually sit right between 104 and 105.

The second thing that rubbed me the wrong way was that the "director" didn't even understand the difference between take-home pay and gross income. It seems like most employers in the US love to pretend tax-free stipends are part of your actual salary...
bluebison10 said:I don't get how people let employers walk all over them so easily. Last year, my boss gave me a raise of maybe a couple hundred bucks. I sent it right back to his account with the tax burden included—I actually wrote in the memo, "Returning your insulting raise, including the tax paid, so you aren't shortchanged." See how quickly I got a call within ten days asking what the hell the problem was....
I’ve got a pretty specific situation here—let's call it that. My wife and I actually bring in way more than we need, so money isn't really the driver for me. And just to be clear, we aren't talking about being loaded—we're actually making a bit less than the average person around here nowadays. But because of some "new processes and shifting norms" at the company lately, I started feeling like an idiot. I lost that sense of peace I always had at this job—it used to be my perfect workplace. So, I tried using inflation as a reason for a raise, adding a subtle little hint from the "other stuff" drawer. Since they didn't bite on that, I would've had to go much more direct—maybe even confrontational. But if eleven years of dealing with these people taught me anything, it's that locals around here just don't know how to have a straight conversation to your face. So yeah, I'm stuck with this crap. I just deal with it every five or six years when they start giving me grief. 😁
So, honestly, when it comes to standing up for your rights—well, if you're acting like a total coward, there was never even a chance at getting that sub-10 percent increase. It’s a tiny bump, sure, but what can you really do when you've got no backbone?
Chill out. The math just works way better if you plan on keeping the car for 8 or 9 years—you drive it for 4 then you're right back at square one. At least when we're talking about used cars. Leasing is something most people try to dodge, even though it’s become a super common way to "buy" a ride lately.
Now even I can see that the original text doesn't actually mention 5 years. 😁
Ethan Cook said:The real pros are those "seasoned veterans" who stuff extra tobacco into the pipe just to make the hit last longer. Listen, man, I’ll give you some flour to mix in if you want your joint to be thicker and longer. We used to roll them so tight you could stick a needle through it, then light up and pull the smoke straight 🤣
And then the next morning you're pooping out a darker shade of brown—so what, you just taking a dump?👍
Ethan Cook said:Tobacco isn't even the issue; you can just roll something pure, though smaller hits might actually feel stronger since burning tobacco alongside the smoke dampens the THC effect. Sure, people mix it in for financial reasons. I remember when you could pull a single sheet out of a Marlboro pack, but you can't anymore. And bread wraps? Haven't seen those in stores for years since they started wrapping everything in cellophane.
Yeah, and those papers from the cigarette packs too? Totally forgot about that. What are you gonna do, though? You're at some weekend cabin and the nearest gas station is 10 miles away. And there's zero guarantee they even carry Rizla. They might just have those old-school, cheap red ones. 😁 Fair enough, pure is better, but when you're short on cash and there are more than two of you, it's just not an option. Real talk, though—tobacco was never actually necessary.
Nisan has no clue—you should've just stayed home. Honestly, you could've been anywhere else, even literally out in the ocean, complaining about not having a filter 🙄🤦
Rizla, please... people get over it. Think about how many people used to roll up using that greasy paper from Bobis. Or even that bread paper you get at the bakery The only thing you need is tobacco if you don't have anything else
Exactly—that whole renting argument just doesn't hold up economically. I don't know about Germany, but I don't see the math working out in Oslo where renting makes more sense than buying. If you actually have the cash to buy, obviously—but for that, you either need two solid jobs or some kind of inheritance. Or both, if you’re aiming for that upper-middle class life.
