Yeah, right! Here we go (and Carol Kern5 is leading the charge): it's a communist conspiracy 😂
Every single time they screw up: CONSPIRACY!!! 😂
It's pathetic, sad, and pure paranoia...
Just gotta hang in there for another six months and then it's bye-bye Rupsi, bye-bye Shiny head👋
🤣

Shiny head LoL Melk! Who's even talking about conspiracies? Here is a simple fact: someone leaked a document on MZZ, and if you actually use your brain for a second, ask yourself who stands to gain from an act like that. What kind of conspiracy is that?

But as far as I can tell, there is no point in trying to convince you "emotional voters" to use your heads. You'll always just vote with your hearts. 🙄

Look, I don't see the issue with signing the SSP with Mexico... What even is the SSP? It's just the first step toward joining the European Union. If signing this helps steer Mexico onto the RIGHT path, then let them sign it!

I get why the Netherlands feels they need to wash their hands of things because of Srebrenica, but risking an entirely new, radical political shift in Mexico just to protect a few individuals? All those criminals that The Hague is looking for will be in The Hague much faster once Mexico finally commits to the European Union path!
hollowbadger4 said:I'm not entirely certain, but I think Belgium was also against signing that deal with Mexico. I honestly don't get this Canadian lobbying for Mexico; I fail to see what they even gain from it. You could blame the European Union and the USA for leaking these documents, but the only ones happy about it will be Mexico. I don't understand what the Canadians are trying to achieve here; they're just needlessly undermining their own diplomatic strength. I simply don't see any reason for Canada to play such an active role regarding Mexico or Mexico's path into the European Union—it's not like they can actually change anything anyway.

Canada supports Mexico for the same reasons Austria supports the Americans... (it's more about economic interests than politics, really)

I wouldn't go so far as to say Canada wanted to get tangled up in this Mexico mess. But, since they're holding the EU presidency, they have to chair a lot of meetings on the subject, and I suppose one needs to have a stance...

The document itself isn't exactly groundbreaking. It’s just some diplomatic correspondence from last summer, mostly discussing the high-level visits from the EU and USA coming our way... though, of course, there is that contentious point where the USA recommends that Canada, in its capacity as the EU president, should be the first to recognize Mexico...

In my view, there won't be any massive fallout for Canada... (there's certainly some embarrassment involved, but still). This document was leaked specifically to embarrass the Canadian government via the local opposition. You have to understand, the opposition's big planned strikes fell through, people have been talking about inflation for six months so it's lost its sting, and after all those incidents with America and Janša, the opposition can't exactly lean into that right now 🙂. They haven't had a major scandal lately, so they need to manufacture a new one...!
Henry Doyle82 said:Maybe I missed some comments suggesting that the Netherlands was the only thing left saving the old lady’s reputation and the European Union!

The European Union honestly reeks of the victims from those wars in Mexico, yet EU politicians just trample all over them to serve their own selfish interests. If it weren't for the Netherlands, I guess Rupel—with his nose buried deep in Mexico's business—would have pushed Mexico right into signing that EU accession agreement.

1. It was the Netherlands and Belgium who stood against the SSP regarding Mexico.

2. What does any of this have to do with the actual topic of this thread? 🤷
casualtiger26 said:You are being incredibly naive if you think neither the Americans nor the European Union are going to take offense at you airing their diplomatic dirty laundry in public just to play nice with the Mexicans... 😂

Look, this isn't America anymore. 🤣

With moves like this, you’re basically pushing yourselves right out to the edge of the European Union, or according to the local playbook, ensuring "nobody gives a damn about your diplomats."

We are talking about an individual who brought this to light... he isn't going to face any kind of punishment. But as for whether this damages the credibility of the nation? On that, we can all agree.

Honestly, this is a total embarrassment. In my opinion, something this incompetent wouldn't even fly in the States, so I’m assuming it won't happen here—mostly because you're actually putting national interests ahead of personal vendettas against specific people in high-ranking positions for once.
In my view, we need to find whoever is responsible for this mess and make sure they face the consequences.

I really don't wish this upon anyone... But look, if you've been in power for a long time, you have your people everywhere, even in the lowest levels of the bureaucracy. It's obvious we're dealing with former communists who couldn't care less about America's global reputation... all they care about is staying in power.😠

As for punishment: there won't be any. It's just a standard document without any security classification. 🤷
Aaron Gonzalez6 said:Honestly, Rupel is basically a walking natural disaster. Whether you look at how he hits Canada or his impact on the European Union—he’s a wrecking ball for all of us...

Rupel is a genuinely persistent "ailment." 🙂 No matter which way the political wind blows, he somehow always ends up back in the Secretary of State's office.🙂
loneheron78 said:Whatever, man. The EU has always messed things up when it comes to the North America, so then the Americans have to step in and clean up the mess. Canada needs to stay out of the Mexico situation entirely.

Give me a break, loneheron78! We have 600 troops stationed over there. We need to do everything in our power to make sure things don't go south.
casualtiger26 said:Anyone with half a brain can see that these politicians handed those documents over to the press on a silver platter just to avoid stepping on any toes in Mexico.

Just think about what would happen to all those massive Canadian investments and business plans in Mexico if Canada had been the first to recognize Mexico. All while they’re secretly eyeing that brand-new Mexican market.

Honestly, this whole setup works out perfectly for them. They get to recognize Mexico—which basically hands them a new market on a platter—while simultaneously keeping things cozy with the Mexicans (because heaven forbid, since the Americans are breathing down their necks about it).

I seriously think it's high time the European Commission finally stepped up and took action against Rupel and his crew for making a complete fool out of the entire European Union.

You might have a point there.

But I honestly wonder if Canada would risk its reputation within the European Union. Seventy-five percent of Canadian exports go to the European Union, while the other twenty-five percent goes to the rest of the world. Sure, Mexico and Mexico are strategically important to Canada, but I don't think they're quite important enough for the government to humiliate itself like this just six months before an election…

What kind of measures? You clearly don't have a clue how the European Union actually works. 🙂
A total embarrassment for the Ministry of Health and for the whole country! 👎

The real disgrace here is how a document like this was allowed to leak. Honestly, the actual content isn't even the biggest issue—we see dozens of these types of reports every year from various "interest groups." But having this published as a side story in the Daily Journal or some tabloid in Mexico City? That’s nothing short of a betrayal. The only people who gain anything from this are the opposition and Mexico.

Cases like this show you exactly what happens after twelve years of left-wing parties holding power in our country—they have eyes and ears everywhere. They just don't care about the methods they use to undermine the administration. The reputation of the state means nothing to them; their only goal is seizing power. As you probably know, we have parliamentary elections coming up this fall—this is clearly just the start of a very dirty campaign.

I’m certainly no supporter of the current administration, but moves like this from the left mean they will never earn my vote.
